Chuxi Tulou group
Chuxi Tulou group is located in Chuxi village, Xiayang Town, Yongding District, Fujian Province. It has been built for hundreds of years from Ming Dynasty to modern times. It is the settlement of Xu family, with a total area of 14.72 hectares.
Chuxi Tulou group is one of the "three groups and two buildings" in Yongding. It consists of five round buildings and dozens of square buildings (mainly Jiqing building, Yuqing building, Shengqing building, Huaqing building, Gengqing building, Xiqing building, Fuqing building, Gongqing building, Fanqing building, Shanqing building, etc.), and the main types are rectangle, square, circle, hexagon, etc.
There is a word "Qing" in the middle of the building names of Chuxi Tulou group, which shows that people are prosperous and everything goes well. In February 1999, Chuxi Tulou group was identified as a cultural relic protection unit at the county level (Yongding County), and became one of the declaration places for Yongding Hakka Tulou to be listed in the world heritage list.
In November 2009, Chuxi Tulou group was identified as the seventh batch of provincial cultural relics protection units in Fujian Province.
Historical evolution
In the early Ming Dynasty (early 13th century), the Xu family began to build earth buildings in Chuxi village, Xiayang Town, Yongding District.
Chuxi was originally named Chuxi, which means Chuxi. It has the meaning of carelessness. Because of its bad moral, it was renamed Chuxi.
In 1419, the Xu family built Jiqing building.
In 1799, the Xu family built the Shengqing building.
In 1840, the Xu family built the Gengqing building.
In 1949, the Xu family built the Gongqing building.
In 1979, the Xu family built Shanqing building.

Adjacent to Jiqing building, Shanqing building is a round earth building. Facing north and south, it covers an area of 630 square meters, with civil structure and three stories high.
Gengqing building is a round earth building with three stories of civil structure and covers an area of 660 square meters.
Gongqing building is a hexagonal Tulou residence, facing north and south, civil structure, four floors.

The oldest and youngest of the world heritage Fujian Tulou are in Chuxi Tulou group. Jiqing building, 66 meters in diameter, is 600 years old, while Shanqing building, 31 meters in diameter, is only 30 years old.
General round building, small set two public stairs, big set four stairs, the ground floor is interlinked and layers of corridor access, mutual communication. On the ground floor, each household in Jiqing building has its own staircase from the first floor to the fourth floor. The passageways on each floor are separated by wooden boards. Seventy two staircases divide the whole building into seventy-two independent units. The rooms, stairs and partition walls are all made of Chinese fir. They are all connected by the head of the neighboring Falcon without an iron nail. After nearly six centuries of wind, frost, rain and snow, the Jiqing building is skew and stands up with the two meter thick raw earth wall.

Different from other earth buildings, there is no well in Jiqing building, so it can only draw water from the river beside the building, and only has one gate, which is different from other earth buildings with three to four gates. Jiqinglou, a mode of living together and independent of each other, not only eliminates the fear of single door and single family in turbulent times, but also avoids the shortcoming that ordinary earth buildings have no private space and excessive noise.
In the hundreds of years after Jiqing building, all the floors of the earth buildings are connected by rings.
The corridor and patio on the first floor of Shanqing building are all paved with square granite of the same specification, which has good lighting and ventilation effect.
The gallery and patio on the ground floor are paved with square granite, and the external wall is painted with lime.
Gongqing building is low in the front and high in the back, with four corners in the front and two corners in the back. There are 152 halls and rooms in the whole building, with only one entrance.

Jiqing building was built in 1419, the 17th year of Yongle in Ming Dynasty. It is the oldest, most stairs and the most special structure existing in Yongding. There are 72 stairs in the building, one for each household.
The Jiqing building was built by a man surnamed Xu who runs the paper industry. The scale of the building is much larger than that of the surrounding buildings. The earth building is divided into 72 units by partition, which is different from the general earth building design.
A large Hakka folk custom museum is set up in Jiqing building to display precious cultural relics of various times.
More than 50 exhibition rooms have been initially built on the first floor of Jiqing building to display carving, opera, musical instrument workshop, pastry shop, old medicine shop, engraving printing, textile, Academy, wine shop, fortune teller, bank, folk costumes, farming tools, etc. In addition, ancient inscriptions, imperial plaques, Ming and Qing official costumes and supplies are also on display.

Legends and anecdotes
In the 20th century, U.S. satellites used Chuxi Tulou group as a missile launch base, and the data were stored in the White House. It was not until President Nixon's visit to China that they realized that it was just a kind of residential building called "Tulou".
