Machi ancient city site of Han Dynasty is located in the northwest of Machi Township, Baotou suburb, with a total area of more than 900000 square meters. It is the best preserved and largest ancient city site in Baotou.
Introduction to ancient city ruins
The wall of the ancient city is 6 meters high, 10 meters wide at the bottom and 3-4 meters wide at the top. It is divided into two cities, North and south, which are connected with each other in double rhombus shape. The north city is 800 meters from east to west and 550 meters from north to south. The south city is 660 meters from east to west, 675 meters from north to south, 360 meters from the East, and the rest is connected with the north city. In the early Qing Dynasty, the sanhuwan area was rich in bluish dogbane. At that time, there were 13 Jue pools, which were called Machi village.

The simple utensils with hunting patterns have distinctive Xiongnu cultural characteristics. In the ancient city, tiles of "Shan Yu He Qin" and "Shan Yu Tian Jiang" were unearthed from the Han Dynasty. It is speculated that the tiles were probably fired to commemorate Wang Zhaojun's going out to the frontier to make peace with his relatives for architectural use at that time. Machi site has been identified as a cultural relic protection unit of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
