Eryi building
Eryilou, located in Dadi village, Xiandu Town, Hua'an County, Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province, was built in 1740 by Jiang Shixiong, the fourteenth of the Chiang family. It was completed in 1770.
Eryilou has been built for 30 years, covering an area of 9300 square meters, with a diameter of 73.4 meters. It is the largest single circular earth building in Fujian Province.
There are 593 square meters of murals, 226 pieces, 99 square meters of color paintings, 228 pieces, 349 pieces of wood carvings and 163 couplets in Eryi building, which is known as "South China mural Museum".
On November 20, 1996, eryilou was approved by the State Council of the people's Republic of China and announced as the fourth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
Historical evolution
In 1565, Jiang Jingrong moved from eyangshan, Haicheng, to Zhaoji, Dadi village, Xiandu town.
In 1702, the fourteenth Chiang Shih Xiong chose the address of Tulou and bought more than 1000 mu of land.
In the 13th year of Yongzheng reign of Qing Dynasty (1735), after Chiang Shixiong raised money to build Xuantian Pavilion, he began to plan earth buildings.
In 1738, the foundation project of Tulou in Hua'an County was completed, during which more than 500 meters of river course was reconstructed, two pavilions were built, and one hill was excavated.
In 1740, the main project of earth building in Hua'an County was started.
In 1770, the earth building in Hua'an County was completed, and Liu ruizi, a Jinshi in Anxi County, inscribed the name of the building Er Yi Lou.
In 1934, the Kuomintang troops besieged eryilou for three months in order to capture people. They bombarded eryilou with mortars. There were bullet holes on the south wall.
In 1988, three scholars and several experts from Taiwan's Han Sheng magazine jointly organized a 36 day tour of Fujian Tulou. They surveyed more than 70 Tulou, including Er Yi Lou.
In July 1992, CCTV's "Chinese folk houses" crew took Eryi building as an excellent model of Fujian Tulou for comprehensive and key shooting.
Architectural features

The building is 73.4 meters in diameter, 2.53 meters in thickness and 16 meters in height.
The second yilou has the advantages of two kinds of round buildings: the inner corridor type and the unit type. The inner ring bungalow is a toutian house with a kitchen and a dining room. There are four rooms in each unit of the outer ring building. The first floor is bedroom and living room; the second and third floors are bedroom and warehouse; the fourth floor is ancestral hall;
There are 12 zigzag sound transmission holes on the outer wall of the ground floor, which are convenient for internal and external contact and information transmission. On the outside of the top floor, the wall is thinned and a 1-meter-wide hidden corridor is set up to make up for the deficiency of the unit earth building defense. There are 56 observation and shooting windows and 23 gun holes in the corridor.
The center of eryilou is the inner courtyard of public places, where clothes and crops can be dried. There are two ancient wells in the courtyard, named Yinquan and Yangquan, which form the formation of Taiji.
Cultural relics
There are 226 murals, 228 color paintings, 349 wood carvings and 163 couplets in Eryi building. The contents include flowers and birds, landscapes and figures. In the second yilou building, there are pictures of semi naked women from the west, Western clocks and the New York Times and New York Evening News in the 1930s.

Jiang Shixiong (1678-1744), a native of Houjing natural village, Dadi village, Xiandu Town, ranked fifth. He moved out of Houjing at the foot of Wugong Mountain and lived in eryilou. He was the second native of Houjing, so he was called "Houjing Er" at that time. When he was young, Jiang Shixiong was poor. He went out to make a living and was ambitious. When he was middle-aged, he returned to his hometown in rich clothes and accumulated a lot of money to build large earth buildings. Jiang Shixiong chose the address of eryilou in 1702, the 13th year of Yongzheng (1735), and died in 1744.
The origin of the name
"Suitable for Ding and money" is the original intention of Jiang Shixiong to create the second building, which means suitable for mountain, water, family, interior, exterior, son, daughter, building, culture and military.

From October 1, 2019 to October 7, 2019, eryilou will hold the first large-scale International Clown Festival.

Eryi building integrates history, geography, architecture, military science, philosophy, aesthetics and folklore. The whole building pursues the harmony of heaven, earth and man, which is a great practice of Chinese traditional geomancy theory.
