Danxia National Geopark in Zhangye

Danxia National Geopark in Zhangye is the only compound area of Danxia landform and colorful hilly landscape in China. Located at the northern foot of Qilian Mountain, 30 kilometers south of Linze County, Zhangye City, Gansu Province, it is one of the areas with the largest and best development of Danxia landform and the richest landform modeling in China. It is a typical representative of China's colorful Danxia, with high scientific research and tourism value. In November 2005, China Geographic magazine and 34 media across the country jointly held the "China's most beautiful place" selection activity, and was elected as one of the "China's seven most beautiful Danxia". In 2015, it was selected as 25 dream travel destinations by many well-known websites in China.

The scenic spot is used as a location for shooting in the films directed by Jiang Wen, Zhang Yimou and Qian Yanqiu.

Development history

The Danxia Landform in Zhangye was formed 6 million years ago.

In April 2002, when Lei Xingyi ran into people from other provinces and went to the place where he was herding sheep to collect wind, he told the tourists to go to the mountains to have a look at Caishan, which triggered the "domino effect". Through the introduction of past tourists and some photographers, many drama groups and famous directors were attracted here.

Danxia landform of Zhangye is located in Linze, 40 kilometers away from Zhangye City. In the hilly area at the northern foot of Qilian Mountain with an area of 100 square kilometers, Baiyin township of Sunan Yugur Autonomous County is the center. The altitude is between 2000 meters and 3800 meters. It is about 40 kilometers long from east to west and 5-10 kilometers wide from north to south. Climatic characteristics

Due to the deep hinterland of the mainland, Zhangye belongs to a typical temperate continental arid climate, with long sunshine time, abundant light and heat resources, cold in winter and warm in summer, and four distinct seasons. The average annual precipitation here is only about 130 mm, and the average temperature is about 7 ℃. The best time to travel to Zhangye is from June to September when the rainfall is relatively concentrated. Main attractions

The landscape area mainly includes Binggou scenic area and colorful Hill scenic area. Binggou scenic spot is mainly distributed in Kangle Township and Baiyin township of Sunan County, Zhangye City. Colorful Hill scenic spots are mainly distributed in nijiaying Township, Linze County. The distribution area is about 510 square kilometers, provincial geoparks, provincial scenic spots, 30 kilometers east of Zhangye City, 20 kilometers north of Linze County, with an altitude of 2000-3800 meters.

Cause of formation

Danxia geological structure is formed by rock accumulation.
