Historical evolution

Nanjing Forestry University originated from Sanjiang normal school founded in 1902. It has experienced the changes of Liangjiang Normal School, Nanjing Higher Normal School, National Southeast University, national fourth Sun Yat sen University, national Jiangsu University, National Central University and National Nanjing University.

In 1952, the Forestry Department of Nanjing University and the Forestry Department of Jinling University merged to establish Nanjing Forestry College, which was one of the first batch of independent forestry colleges in New China.

In 1952, the school began postgraduate education.

In 1955, the Forestry Department of Huazhong Agricultural College, which was composed of the Forestry Department of Wuhan University, the Forestry Department of Nanchang University and the Forestry Department of Hubei Agricultural College, was merged into Nanjing Forestry College. In 1972, it was renamed Nanjing Institute of forestry industry.

In 1956, the school established the scientific research department.

In 1983, the name of Nanjing Forestry College was restored.

In November 1981, with the approval of the State Council, the University became one of the first batch of doctoral and master degree awarding units in China.

In 1985, it was renamed Nanjing Forestry University.

In 1986, the University established the graduate department (adjusted to graduate department in 1988 and graduate school in 2003).

In 1988, three disciplines were selected as the first batch of national key disciplines.

In 1999, it was selected into the first batch of national college students' cultural quality education bases.

In 2000, the school system was transferred from the State Forestry Administration to the Jiangsu provincial government, and jointly constructed by the State Forestry Administration and the Jiangsu provincial government.

In 2010, it was selected as the national "characteristic key discipline project construction university".

In May 2011, it was rated as "National Graduate Employment typical experience university" by the Ministry of education.
