Zhang Yuanji Library

Zhang Yuanji library is located in Wenchang East Road, Wuyuan Town, Haiyan County, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province. It was built in August 1984 and opened on May 8, 1987. Chen Yun wrote the title of the library. In the middle of the memorial hall of Mr. Zhang Yuanji is a white marble statue of Zhang's half body, which displays Zhang Yuanji's life story, works, research papers and local literature.

brief introduction

Zhang Yuanji (1867-1959), a native of Wuyuan Town, Haiyan County, was named Xiaozhai and Jusheng.

After the failure of the reform movement of 1898, Zhang Yuanji was "dismissed and never used". He immediately left Beijing for Shanghai to work in Nanyang public school and presided over the publication of Yan Fu's translation of Yuan Fu and other western social science works.

In 1902, he joined the commercial press as director of the compilation Institute. Zhang spent most of his life in charge of the compilation and publishing business of the commercial press. As a scholar and publisher, he set up a monument in the history of modern Chinese cultural development. Zhang Yuanji has always been concerned about and supported his hometown's cultural and educational undertakings.

From January to April of the 30 years of the Republic of China, he donated to Shanghai Hezhong library 496 works and 1822 volumes of the former sages of Jiaxing Prefecture, 104 and 856 volumes of the works of Zhang's ancestors and the books evaluated by them, and 355 and 1115 volumes of the former sages of Haiyan County. Since the 10th year of the Republic of China, Zhang Yuanji, GE Sibin, Jin Zhaofan, Wang Jiarong, etc. initiated and presided over the supplement of Li Wenxi. After several times of dropout, it was finally completed, and the sequel was twice as much as the original.

He copied four volumes of the catalogue himself. Before the Anti Japanese War, the original manuscript was bound in 78 volumes and stored in Jiaxing library. After the incident, it is now stored in Shanghai Library.

Library scale

Zhang Yuanji Library covers an area of more than 8000 square meters, with a total construction area of 2500 square meters. Entering the main entrance of the library, there are flowers and plants everywhere, trees and shade. The front building is the main building of the library, and the left side is "Mr. Zhang Yuanji Memorial room" and electronic reading room. There are four departments in the Library: lending Department (including lending room and Library), reading department (including newspaper reading room, business version reference reading room, science and technology reading room, local literature and Mr. Zhang Yuanji Memorial room), children's acquisition and editing department (including acquisition and editing room, children's Library and computer room), and General Administration Department (including finance, archives, general affairs and electronic reading room) Etc.). At present, there are 20 staff members, including 8 Party members and 15 people with college or technical secondary school education or above, with an average age of 33. They are the youngest team in the cultural system. The library adheres to the tenet of "readers first, service first" and receives 60000-80000 readers per year. Since its opening, the library has received more than 800000 readers and circulated more than 2 million books, contributing to the spiritual civilization construction and economic construction of our county.

In addition to the functions of general county and municipal public libraries, Zhang Yuanji library also has its own two characteristics: first, a memorial room for Mr. Zhang Yuanji is specially set up to collect, sort out, display and preserve Mr. Zhang Yuanji's works, manuscripts and life stories for research. In 1987 and 1992, the China Association of publishers and the commercial press jointly sponsored the first and second International Symposium on Zhang Yuanji's academic thoughts, which effectively publicized Zhang Yuanji's patriotism and raised the popularity of the library.

Last year, on the basis of the original, the memorial room was renovated and exhibition was arranged again. A new physical exhibition room was set up to enrich the display contents and improve the visiting environment. Over the past decade, more than 1500 visiting groups and more than 50000 people have been received. The second is to set up the version reading room of the commercial press to collect, sort out, preserve and display the publications of the commercial press in the past 100 years. Now there are more than 6000 versions and more than 10000 volumes, which increase by a certain proportion every year. The commercial press in Beijing, Hong Kong and Taiwan have given away a large number of books. One of them, the original edition of the four part series, has become the only edition of Taiwan's Business Edition collected by the mainland, which is of great value to the study of the development of China's modern publishing industry.

With the care and support of the county Party committee, the county government and the competent departments, and the joint efforts of the comrades in the library, Zhang Yuanji library has been forging ahead in its work for more than ten years, giving full play to the social functions of the library. In line with the construction of the two civilizations in Haiyan County, we have successively undertaken the first "farmers' reading evaluation activities" and "ten best book collection families" evaluation activities in Haiyan County, as well as youth patriotism education activities. We have constantly broadened the field of reader service, opened a science and Technology Library, Hanfen bookstore, set up a number of community book service outlets, and actively participated in the military camp culture, enterprise culture and street culture Culture, rural culture construction. At present, our library has also initially built a computer local area network, and has implemented computer management and operation in the departments of acquisition, editing, lending, children, Business Edition, etc. Recently, Zhang Yuanji library took the lead in setting up an electronic reading room among the county and municipal libraries in Jiaxing area, developing to a higher level of digital, network and information services.

For more than ten years, Zhang Yuanji library has won the trust of readers and the encouragement of superior leaders for its rich collection and high-quality service. It has been successively rated as a national second-class library by the Ministry of culture of the CPC Central Committee, and has been successively rated as a civilized unit at the city and county level; a civilized library at the provincial and municipal level; and a "patriotic education base of Zhejiang Province" by the provincial Party committee and the provincial government of Zhejiang Province number.
