History of old street
Xinpu chucheng
200 years ago, after the Xinpu area became a land, there were more and more people. After decades of salt making and fishing for a living, and because of the waste of salt fields in the distant sea, salt fields have turned into grass beaches. People have taken advantage of Haizhou, which is close to the ancient city for thousands of years, and is also located at the downstream of the Qianhong river. It has convenient land and water transportation, and has many fishing boats and cargo ships in the past. Therefore, people choose a high place on the North Bank of Qianhe River (now the bottom of Shihua Road), which connects the Yanhe River and the Longwei river They set up sheds to build houses, open shops, restaurants and inns, and set up warehouses to provide convenience for fishermen, merchants and passers-by in terms of shopping, accommodation and inventory, so as to make a living. Finally, in the third year of Jiaqing in Qing Dynasty, it was called Xinpu because it was formed in Banpu and bianjiapu. Later, more and more people made a living.
By the early years of the reign of Emperor Guangxu, a market with a width of four or five meters had initially formed on the North Bank of Qianhe river. This is a big enough street in Xinpu, which is a wasteland. Therefore, people who come and go call it Xinpu street. In the 18th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu, 113 years ago, when the Tianhou palace in Xinpu was built, this "street" was actually a section of nearly one Chinese Li from the west to the North Antarctic road and the east to the Tianhou Palace (now under the government compound of Xinpu District). During the 10 years since the construction of Tianhou palace, the main street also extended from east to west, forming a scale of about 1.5 km from east to East (today's Longwei bridge) and west to West (originally at today's Chi pailou).
The moment of prosperity
In 1905, linhongkou was opened to the outside world, and its business gradually flourished, with agricultural products trade as the main body. At this time, Xinpu, as the town of linhongkou, has developed to a certain extent. Shops serving the market are arranged in turn between the front and back of the river. As the predecessor of Minzhu Road, the "Tulu Street" in front of the temple is becoming more and more lively.
At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, the democratic road had already taken on the embryonic form of the market town axis. The market town formed by the changes of land and sea has spanned a hundred years, and has evolved into today's Xinpu city and even the whole port city. At that time, the conditions were the opening of Dapu port in 1905 and the establishment of Haizhou commercial port. The trade between land and sea makes the market town of Xinpu open, accessible and prosperous. According to statistics, in the 1930s, Xinpu had all kinds of representative projects with commercial and industrial characteristics, commonly known as 13 industries and 36 lines.
Naming
In 1926, to commemorate the first anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat Sen's death, Donghai County Government paved the most prosperous street in Xinpu with gravel and named it "Zhongshan Road". At that time, Zhongshan Road, integrating religion (Tianhou Palace), commerce, transportation, salt industry, education and other industries, formed a core block with complete functions and rich varieties. In the Republic of China, Zhongshan Road was called "little Shanghai" in Northern Jiangsu because of its developed commerce.
In the late 1920s and early 1930s, Xinpu had its first golden age in its history. Zhongshan Road was also divided into three sections: Damiao Lane (today's Minmin Road) on the east side of Tianhou palace from Dongqi was called "Zhongshan East Street"; Damiao lane to Yangqiao Lane (now Antarctic Road) was called "Zhongshan middle street"; Yangqiao lane to Xiqi was called "Zhongshan West Street".
On November 7, 1948, Xinpu was liberated. Soon, Zhongshan Road was renamed "democracy Road". The name of the bridge is "democracy bridge" in the West and "Longwei bridge" in the East. Between the Democratic bridge and the Longwei bridge, it is called "democratic middle road"; to the east of the Longwei bridge, it is called "democratic East Road"; to the west of the Democratic bridge, it is called "democratic West Road".
decline
Today, the street is still full of simple shops, such as cloth, cloth shoes, curtains, tea and hardware. This kind of continuation is the continuation of commercial blood. Unfortunately, this kind of continuation has no sign of rising. Although the business matches, only a few stores reveal the business spirit from the 1930s to the present.
In June 2013, Lianyungang Xinpu district Party committee and government launched the reconstruction project of Minzhu road characteristic block. By the end of 2013, the most historic and cultural old street in Xinpu will be rejuvenated, and the street will be opened. At that time, the impression characteristic block of the Republic of China, which integrates traditional and modern, and has both tourism and leisure functions, will be displayed in front of us.
Revival of old streets
At the beginning of 2013, Li Qiang, Secretary of Lianyungang Municipal Party committee and director of the Standing Committee of Lianyungang Municipal People's Congress, was deeply touched by the scene when he went to Minzhu road to investigate. As the birthplace of Xinpu, democracy Road has been carrying the memory and dream of Xinpu people. "Take a year to transform it and give it to the common people." He demanded that we must keep the rare memory of the city and turn it into a commercial street for the common people. After that, he went to the scene for guidance many times, and the leaders of the municipal government, the Municipal Housing Bureau, the land and Resources Bureau and other relevant departments held many on-site meetings to solve practical problems. "Reviving the old street, its social value, brand value, historical value, immeasurable, we must do a good job in the project." Wang Libin, Secretary of Xinpu district Party committee, said with emotion. Reviving the old street is not only the expectation of the citizens of Xinpu district for many years, but also an important move for the Centennial cultural heritage of Xinpu.
At the beginning of 2013, Xinpu District collected more than 100 historical photos and sorted out more than 300000 words, providing historical literature basis for the reconstruction of Minzhu road and striving to reproduce the old look of these buildings. In March 2013, Xinpu District fully started the reconstruction of the old street of Minzhu road. The first phase of the reconstruction and maintenance of Minzhu road is 650 meters, with an investment of 250 million yuan. 18 cultural and social security buildings have been restored, the facade of the reconstruction is more than 25000 square meters, the new area is more than 10000 square meters, and 125 houses have been collected, involving more than 300 commercial and residential households along the street.
In the process of transformation, in accordance with the principle of "repairing the old as before, unifying the style, integrating the business forms and improving the business style", Xinpu District transformed Minzhu road into "a characteristic business street inheriting the history of Xinpu and tracing the memory of Xinpu; a humanistic leisure space with pleasant scenery and reasonable traffic organization; a diversified, characteristic, localized and differentiated business pattern". It is reported that the biggest highlight of the reconstruction of Minzhu road is the integration of the old and new buildings. The size of the street should be in line with the location of the old shops as far as possible. The signboards and locations, especially in the "old" treatment, are completely made of wood, brick carvings, stone carvings and other raw materials, so that the old shops can be vividly presented in front of people's eyes. In addition, through the architectural exterior lighting design, it outlines the historical vicissitudes of the block, and makes the democratic road more charming at night.
After nine months of intensive construction, the reconstruction of Minzhu road has been completed as scheduled, and will officially open on December 28. You can go to sanhexing pharmacy to understand the profoundness and profundity of Chinese traditional medicine, shengqinggong tea house to taste the fragrance of 100 kinds of Chinese tea, and Weifang building to taste the delicious taste of authentic Huaiyang cuisine. A trip to democracy is like a cultural journey. Welcome to the century old street.
In February 2018, the old street of Minzhu Road, Lianyungang City, Lianyungang Museum and Wangshu Youdi vinegar factory were named as the second batch of "overseas exchange bases of Chinese culture" in Jiangsu Province.
