Shaoshi mountain

Shaoshi mountain is a part of Danxia Mountain World Geopark. It is located in the south of Danxia Mountain scenic spot, adjacent to Zhenjiang River in the East and Jingjiang River in the north and south, with a total area of about 180 square kilometers. There are thirty-six stone peaks in Shaoshi mountain. The peaks are very beautiful. They are either towering or like censers, candles or animals.

This land has a beautiful legend: it is said that more than 4000 years ago, Emperor Shun's south mountain climber played Shao music. The beautiful music moved the surrounding rocks and turned them into "thirty stones" with peculiar shape. Shaoshi got its name. In the ninth year of kaihuang (589 AD), the name of Shaoshi was changed from Eastern Hengzhou to Shaozhou (the former name of Shaoguan City).

Introduction to scenic spots

Among them, Jinlong mountain is the highest with an altitude of 410.5 meters. In addition, the "double Que" stone is the most beautiful and unique. The two stones stand opposite each other, with a wall standing at a hundred feet, and the sky towering, such as the ancient high gate que. At the southernmost end of Shaoshi mountain, the "five horses returning to the trough" is also quite famous. Here, the five mountains are juxtaposed and meandering to the West. It looks like five tall horses drinking water near the river, and its shape is vivid and lifelike. It is said that a long time ago, a bridge was to be built at the South Gate of Qujiang County (now Shaoguan City). Due to the rapid water flow, the bridge piers could not be set up, so they went everywhere to seek talents. In the sky, an immortal volunteered and told the Jade Emperor to drive five horses to help him. When he left, the Jade Emperor told him, "if you can't get to the destination before dawn, you should drive the horses back to the trough." Xianren ran on the road with a whip, but before he got to Shaozhou, the rooster crowed three times. Xianren had to drive the horse back to Guyang village. It was already daybreak, and the five horses turned into five stone mountains. "Five horses go back to work" is the transformation of these five immortal horses.

The five horse headed horses are called Dazhai, which is the top of five horses; the two horses are called sichai and Hechun, which have no gate; the three horses are called bigong, which has no gate; the four horses are called Jinzhai; the five horses are called Dongshan. These stone mountains are steep and bare. On the top of the mountain, there are many trees and bamboos, just like a horse's mane. The highest "Wuma village" has an artificial stone path. You can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Lingnan by climbing on the top of the mountain.

There is an ancient road in Shaoshi mountain, which is the only way from Beijing to Guangzhou via Shaozhou in ancient times. From this down, the first scenic spot beside the ancient road is the golden Turtle Rock, with cliffs and the only way to climb. The peak is like a creeping turtle. There is a cave under it, which is just the belly of the turtle. On the top of the turtle, you can see Danxia in the West and thirty-six stones in the East.

Geography

Shaoshi mountain is located about 10 kilometers south of Danxia Mountain in Renhua county, Guangdong Province, across Qujiang and Renhua counties, with a total area of about 60 square kilometers, far away from Danxia Mountain. There is an ancient road in Shaoshi mountain, which is the only way for ancient Lingbei to go to Guangzhou via Shaozhou. The golden Turtle Rock beside the ancient road is the core area of Shaoshi mountain. The peak looks like a turtle, and there is a cave under it, just like the belly of a turtle, so it is named. Shaoshi mountain became a famous scenic spot in the Tang and Song dynasties. After visiting Shaoshi, Han Yu of the Tang Dynasty wrote the poem "Qujiang mountains and waters have been heard for a long time". In modern times, with the development of highways and the abandonment of water transportation in Zhenjiang, shaoshishan was gradually forgotten.
