Jimei University

Jimei University is a multidisciplinary university in Fujian Province. The school started with Jimei normal school founded by the famous patriotic overseas Chinese leader Mr. Chen Jiageng in 1918. In 1994, Jimei University was established on the basis of the former Jimei navigation college, Xiamen Fisheries College, Fujian sports college, Jimei finance and Economics College and Jimei normal college.

Development history

School foundation

Jimei College of Finance and Economics

Its predecessor was Jimei School of business founded by Tan Kah Kee in 1920. Later, it gradually developed into Jimei business school, Jimei senior business vocational school, Jimei finance and economics school, Jimei light industry school and Fujian finance and economics school.

In April 1984, with the approval of Fujian provincial government, it was upgraded to Jimei Finance College and provincial college.

Jimei Maritime College

Its predecessor was the Fisheries Department of Jimei school founded in 1920. After several changes, it changed from the Department of Obstetrics and gynecology to the Department of fisheries, the Department of Fisheries and navigation, the senior navigation school, the Vocational School of Fisheries and navigation, and the Senior Vocational School of Fisheries and navigation.

In 1958, it was divided into fisheries school and navigation school.

During the "Cultural Revolution", the aviation school was incorporated into the Department of Oceanography of Xiamen University.

In 1972, Jimei navigation school was reopened.

In 1978, it was upgraded to Jimei navigation college.

In 1989, it was upgraded to Jimei navigation college.

Xiamen Fisheries University

Its predecessor was Xiamen Fisheries College, which was moved to Jimei by Shanghai Fisheries school in May 1972. It is under the dual leadership of the state fisheries administration and Fujian Province, with the state fisheries administration as the main body. After the establishment of the Ministry of agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries, it has become one of the 16 Agricultural Colleges under the Ministry.

In May 1979, Shanghai Fisheries University was restored and some majors moved back to Shanghai. Xiamen Fisheries University continued to run in Xiamen.

Fujian Institute of Physical Education

Its predecessor was Fujian sports college founded in 1958 in Fuzhou.

In July 1959, it was changed into Fujian Institute of physical education and closed down in 1962.

In 1974, Fujian physical education school was founded on the basis of the original "sailing club" in Jimei, Xiamen.

In December 1978, with the approval of the State Council, Fujian physical education school was expanded into Fujian Institute of physical education.

Jimei Teachers College

Its predecessor is Xiamen normal college founded on the basis of Jimei Normal University in 1958. The school is located in Tianwei Road, Gulangyu.

In 1960, it was renamed Xiamen Normal University.

In the autumn of 1963, the school was incorporated into the second Normal University of Fujian Province in Zhangzhou.

In 1975, Xiamen teachers college class was resumed.

In April 1979, Xiamen teachers college was re established in Jimei;

In August 1980, with the approval of Fujian provincial government, it was renamed Jimei teachers college.

In October 1994, it was incorporated into Jimei University and renamed Normal University.

Merging schools

In 1994, Jimei University was established on the basis of the former Jimei College of Finance and economics, Jimei navigation college, Xiamen Fisheries College, Fujian Institute of physical education and Jimei normal college.

In 2003, Chengyi College (Independent College) of Jimei University was established.

In 1988, Lujiang Vocational University Affiliated secondary school was founded, located at No. 47, Nanshan Road, Huli district. The first recruitment of machinery, civil engineering two professional, and then opened chemical, food professional. In August 1991, the school was set up independently and renamed Xiamen technical school. In 1995, it passed the provincial technical secondary school and municipal civilized school evaluation. The technical secondary school also runs correspondence courses with Jiangsu University of technology and other universities.

 

In 2004, Xiamen Polytechnic School Affiliated to Lujiang Vocational University was merged into Jimei University. In the same year, Jimei University was identified as one of the key universities in Fujian Province by Fujian Provincial People's government.

 

Since 2007, one belt, one road, Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia has sent Chinese teachers volunteers every year.

 

In 2008, the University passed the undergraduate teaching evaluation of the Ministry of education with "excellent" results.

 

On February 2, 2013, the University passed the overall acceptance of the project construction of new doctoral degree awarding units organized by the Provincial Academic Degree Committee. On July 19, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council officially approved Jimei University to become a new doctor's degree. In October, he was selected into the "excellent engineer education and training plan" of the Ministry of education.

 

In March 2018, he was selected as the first-class discipline construction university in Fujian Province.

 

In July 2019, it was selected as a first-class university in Fujian Province.

 

In March 2020, it was selected as the first batch of pilot schools of "emergency safety smart learning workshop (2020)" and emergency management college construction.
