Host experience

Jian Zhaonan, formerly known as Jian Yaodong, was born in Lichong, Foshan. He lived in Shiwan when he was young, and his family was poor. He lost his father at the age of 13 and worked as a child laborer at the age of 14. In his youth, with the support of his uncle Jian Mingshi, he went to work and do business in Hong Kong, Japan, Vietnam and Nanyang. At the beginning of last century, he founded "Guangdong Nanyang Brothers Tobacco Company", and defeated the British and American Tobacco Company and other rivals to achieve success. Jane's also became an outstanding overseas Chinese industrialist in modern China and enjoyed a good reputation at home and abroad.

After she became rich, although her family moved to Hong Kong, she loved her motherland, benefited Sangzi, donated money to run a school, and was enthusiastic about public welfare. Jane's activities in Foshan for a long time, there are many local properties.

Architectural features

Chien's villa is the most luxurious house in many properties in Chien Zhao Nan. It was originally quite large, with gatehouses, buildings, pavilions, ponds and gardens, covering a total area of about 3400 square meters. Today, there are still some buildings in the villa, such as the gatehouse, the main building, the back building, the West Building and the storage building, as well as part of the garden. It is the largest existing western style large-scale building complex in Foshan in the early Republic of China and a provincial cultural relic protection unit.

Jane's villa has a large scale, including gatehouse, main building, back building, West building, storage building, garden and other buildings, covering an area of about 3400 square meters. The building is characterized by imitating western style and combining Chinese and Western styles. The main building is modeled after the Italian Renaissance residence building, which is made of reinforced concrete. The first floor is the central hall and the wing rooms on both sides. The ground is made of black and white marble bricks. The windows are made of frosted carved colored glass. The patterns are Chinese ladies, magnolias, flowers and birds, which are very typical of Chinese style. The stairs are all teak, but the railings are western style. The floor of the second floor is paved with cement tiles and ceiling, which is obviously western style. The main building and the back building are connected by flyovers to facilitate traffic.

The exterior walls of the back building are all made of water polished blue bricks, which are imitations of the local houses in the Qing Dynasty. All the windows of the villa are very large, almost half the height of the wall, and the distance is also very close, tens of centimeters apart, which is extremely rare in local buildings. However, the window eaves are decorated with local common brick carvings, with a distinctive national style. The West building is a three story mixed structure of reinforced concrete and green brick, which imitates western architecture, while the storage room is a four story imitated local building, which shows that the owner of the villa recognizes and integrates Chinese and Western culture. It is well preserved today.
