Tuohu Provincial Nature Reserve is located in the northwest of Wuhe County on the southern edge of the Huang Huai Hai Plain, with Tuohu water area as the main body, including the protection belt of the bank dike, mainly distributed in Tuohu township.

Tuohu lake is a hand-held shallow water lake of river trace depression type. It runs from the northern suburb of Wuhe River in the south to the entrance of NANTUO River and Beituo River between Wuhe River and Sixian County in the north. It is about 25 km long. Its northern section is narrow, the narrowest part is only 0.5 km from east to west, and gradually widens to the south, the widest part is about 3.5 km from east to west. Its center is located at 117 ゜ 49'e and 33 ゜ 12'n. The water level is 13.5 meters, and the lake surface is about 40 square kilometers. When huaihongxin river is completed, its normal water level will be 14.3 meters. By then, the lake surface will be about 78 square kilometers.

Tuohu Provincial Nature Reserve is located in the transitional climate zone between north subtropical zone and South warm temperate zone. As a small river trace depression lake, it is a typical representative in Huaibei plain. The nature reserve is characterized by flat land type, mild climate, a variety of special aquatic resources with high economic value and rare waterfowl protected by the state, abundant aquatic organisms and excellent ecological environment quality.

The biodiversity of the nature reserve is rich, and the aquatic ecosystem structure is complete. Thirty nine species of fishes belonging to 7 orders and 14 families have been collected from Tuohu lake. There are two kinds of crabs and eight kinds of shrimps. There are 20 species of vascular plants in 12 families, 68 genera in 7 phyla, 13 genera of protozoa, 22 genera of rotifer, 7 genera of Cladocera and 6 genera of Copepoda. There are 99 species of wild animals in 21 orders, 46 families in the reserve. Birds account for the majority of wild animals, there are 13 orders, 2 families and 68 species, among which there are many rare birds, such as white crane, white crane, white stork, black stork, great bustard, gray crane, mandarin duck and white tailed Harrier, etc.

About 95% of the water area of Tuohu nature reserve is located in Tuohu Township, which is under the jurisdiction of Tuohu township. Tuohu township is located in the northwest of Wuhe County. The township government is 3.5 kilometers away from the county. Tuohu village governs 5 administrative villages, including 2 agricultural villages and 3 fishing villages. The township has a population of 12500, with 4959 mu of arable land and 6000 hectares of water surface. While developing economy, Tuohu township should pay attention to strengthening infrastructure construction. The economy of Tuohu lake is mainly composed of planting, aquaculture and township enterprises, among which aquaculture is a major pillar and characteristic industry of Tuohu lake. In 2000, the industrial and agricultural output value of the township was 572.5 million yuan, of which the output value of river crab was 6 million yuan, and the per capita net income of farmers was 2200 yuan.

Development and utilization

According to the "Regulations of the people's Republic of China on nature protection" and "outline of nature reserves in China", the protection is divided into three functions according to the principles of "scientific division, clear functions, favorable protection, convenient management and reasonable development" in combination with the geographical conditions of nature reserves, ecological functions of different regions, requirements of protection and management, as well as the objectives, tasks and construction guidelines of nature reserves In addition, a water land ecotone is set up 50 meters inside and outside the lake embankment.

The core reserve is composed of the northern core reserve and the central core reserve, with an area of 369.9 square meters, accounting for 8.8% of the total area of the reserve. The northern core reserve is located in the north of the reserve, east of modukou and south of xiaomotan, covering an area of 91.7 square meters. In this area, the water surface is circuitous, the velocity becomes slow, the lake bottom is flat, the silt is deep, the organic matter is rich, and the aquatic vascular plants and phytoplankton grow well. In addition to the river into farmland and domestic sewage and garbage have a certain impact on water quality, the water quality indicators in this area are good, and the nutritional status is mesotrophic. Due to the outstanding topography and good beach and wetland resources, this area is one of the concentrated distribution areas of birds. The central core reserve is located in the central part of the reserve, north of chennanzui to xiaowangzui (including a small lake beach), covering an area of about 278.2 square meters. The lake in this area is relatively wide, which is greatly affected by the microclimate of Tuohu lake. In addition, the lake bottom is rich in mud, and the lake surface is well illuminated. These natural ecological conditions are very conducive to the reproduction of aquatic vascular plants and phytoplankton. The aquatic vascular plants in this area include Potamogeton dentatus, Potamogeton malayi, Potamogeton crispus, apple, wild water chestnut, Epiphyllum, Ceratophyllum, Vallisneria, Phragmites australis, etc. the dominant species in summer and autumn are Potamogeton dentatus, and the dominant species in winter and spring are Potamogeton crispus. The phytoplankton species include silicon, green, blue, gold, a, gymnoxanthophyta. The lake coastline is zigzag, the lake bay is numerous, the beach vegetation and the ecological environment of the water land ecotone are well preserved. Over the years, it has been a wintering habitat for a variety of migratory and resident birds (including the rare birds under the state key protection) and a stopover on the way of migration.

In order to better protect the bird habitat and Lake Wetland Ecosystem in the core area and avoid the influence and interference of external human beings, a zone of about 200 meters is set out in the land area around the core area as a buffer zone; in order to protect the Tuohu birds, their habitat, wintering area, stopover area during migration and food source of birds, a zone of about 500 meters is set out in the water area around the core area as a buffer zone The buffer area of the nature reserve is 969 square meters, accounting for 23.2% of the total area of the nature reserve.

Except the core area and buffer area, the area of Tuohu lake is the protective management area, with an area of 2841.3 square meters, accounting for 68% of the total area of the reserve. Its function is to carry out aquaculture, eco-tourism, scientific research and scientific investigation activities in a planned way.

At the end of 2000, after Tuohu lake was approved by the provincial government to establish a provincial nature reserve, leaders at all levels attached great importance to the construction of the reserve. Wuhe County Government set up a leading group for the preparation of Tuohu Lake Provincial Nature Reserve, with offices under it to actively carry out the work, overcome the difficulties of backward scientific research infrastructure and shortage of funds, and cooperate with some scientific research institutions of colleges and universities to carry out relevant fishery research And aquatic research, specimen collection and protection biology research, etc. have achieved certain results.
