Fuzhou Confucian Temple
Fuzhou Confucian temple, also known as "Xianshi Temple", commonly known as "sage hall", is located in Shengmiao Road, Gulou District, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province (formerly known as Fuxue Street). It is the cultural center of Fuzhou and the Sixth Batch of national key cultural relics protection units. In 772 of the Tang Dynasty, Li Yiqian, a Fujian observer, was moved to the Shengmiao road. In the Five Dynasties, Wang Shenzhi set up four schools, and in the Song Dynasty, it was changed into a Confucian temple. There are Jingshi, Yushu, Jigu three pavilions, Yangyuan, Yidao, jiashuo three halls, and twelve zhaishe, with a scale of more than 100 mu.
The Confucius Temple in Fuzhou was burned three times in Xining of Song Dynasty, Hongwu of Ming Dynasty and Xianfeng of Qing Dynasty. After 1950, the road was expanded and the palace gates on both sides and the screen wall facing Lingxing gate were demolished.
Since 1950, it has been used as a school, shopping mall and children's palace. In 1961, it was listed as a municipal cultural relics protection unit, and later as a provincial cultural relics protection unit. On May 25, 2006, as an ancient building of Qing Dynasty, Fuzhou Confucian temple was approved by the State Council to be listed in the Sixth Batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
Temple introduction
The existing Confucian temple in Fuzhou was built from December of the first year of Xianfeng in the Qing Dynasty to June of the next year. According to the central axis, from south to north, there are waimencheng, lingxingmen, panchi (originally located in Minglun Hall of the Confucian temple, which can not be rebuilt because the former site of Minglun hall has been occupied. It was rebuilt at the present site in 2004). There are corridors on the left and right, halls of dachengmen, halls on the East and West, platforms, Dacheng hall, houzhaobi, etc, It covers an area of 7552 square meters, with a construction area of 4000 square meters, and two verandahs for 72 sages. Dacheng hall, with double eaves and nine ridges, stands on the platform. The four stone pillars in the hall are made of huge materials. No.16 Shengmiao Road on the east side of the Confucian temple, the original Minglun Hall of the Confucian temple was demolished in the 1960s and then converted into a radio and television dormitory. Now only the reconstructed gate building of Minglun hall is left. In Fuzhou, there were two small Confucian temples in Min county and Houguan County, both of which have been destroyed. The former site of Houguan Confucian temple is located in the Provincial Maternal and child health care hospital at 18 daoshan Road, and the Confucian Temple of Min county is located in Huayuan new village at 11 Huayuan road at the foot of Shanxi.
Layout structure
There is a large plaque hanging between the double eaves behind the Confucian temple, and the four words "Yang Zhi Mi Gao" are written in ink. In the old days, Confucius Temple was listed as "holy land", with a palace gate that had been closed for many years across the street, inscribed with "Jin Sheng Yu Zhen" and "Jiang Han Qiu Yang". Both the eastern and Western Palace gates have erected dismounting steles with the Chinese and Manchu characters "civil and military officials dismount here".
