Chongqing Library
Chongqing library is located in Shapingba District of Chongqing. It is a large comprehensive public library in China. It is the main document information collection, exchange and service center in Chongqing. It is a national key protection unit of ancient books, a national first-class library and a civilized unit in Chongqing.
The predecessor of Chongqing library was the "national Roosevelt library" established by the government of the Republic of China in 1947 to commemorate American President Roosevelt who made great contributions to the world anti fascist war; it was renamed "National Southwest people's Library" in April 1950; in May 1955, the former National Southwest people's Library, the former Chongqing People's Library and the former Chongqing Beibei District library were merged and formed In 1987, it was named "Chongqing library"; in June 2007, the new library of Chongqing library was officially opened to the public.
As of July 2018, Chongqing Library covers an area of 30000 square meters and a building area of 50000 square meters, with 1869 reading seats, 1500 information points, more than 240 staff and 16 departments. The library has a collection of more than 4.6 million books (pieces), including 532000 ancient books and more than 200000 United Nations materials.
Development history
In May 1945, the Sixth National Congress of the Chinese Kuomintang passed a motion to commemorate President Roosevelt's contribution to the anti fascist war and the promotion of world peace.
In May 1947, the national Roosevelt library was opened to the public.
In November 1949, Chongqing was liberated, and the southwest ministry of culture and education instructed the "national Roosevelt library" to change its name to "National Southwest people's Library".
In May 1955, the former National Southwest people's library, the former Chongqing People's Library and the former Beibei District Library of Chongqing merged to form the "Chongqing library". The 10-year catastrophe of "Cultural Revolution" frustrated the work of Chongqing Library and hindered its career.
In 1987, Chongqing library changed its name to "Chongqing library".
In 2000, when the tenth five year plan was formulated, five cultural construction projects, including new libraries, art museums and art museums, were planned.
In July 2003, the Standing Committee of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee decided to concentrate its financial resources and invest 4.5 billion yuan in the construction of 10 functional and symbolic social and cultural infrastructure, including Chongqing library. In October, the Chongqing library reconstruction project was officially approved by the Municipal Planning Commission.
In December 2004, the foundation of the new Chongqing library was laid.
In June 2007, the new Chongqing library, located at 106 Fengtian Avenue, Shapingba District, Chongqing, was officially opened to the public.
On October 9, 2019, Chongqing International Exchange Research Center was established in Chongqing library.

As of July 2018, Chongqing library has more than 4.6 million volumes (pieces) of literature, including 532000 ancient books and more than 200000 UN materials. It has a relatively complete local literature system, mainly collecting local chronicles, books, newspapers, genealogies, music scores, calligraphy and painting and other local literature from Chongqing and Sichuan.
Precious ancient books
According to the information on the library's official website in October 2018, Chongqing library has collected 532342 volumes of thread bound ancient books since the Song Dynasty, including 3707 kinds and 55632 volumes of national rare books general catalogue, including 424 kinds of solitary and rare books, including the concise catalogue of imperial Siku Quanshu, valley old man's knife and pen, qingjiangbei's anthology and other precious ancient books. From the first batch to the fifth batch of national precious ancient books list, 217 rare ancient books were selected.
UN literature
Since 1999, Chongqing library has become a full Depository Library of United Nations documents, collecting all the documents and materials of the United Nations and its affiliated institutions. UN documents generally refer to all meeting minutes and books published by the United Nations and its subordinate professional bodies (including its subsidiary bodies). It mainly includes books, periodicals and documents. The books mainly include yearbooks published by the United Nations, monographic research reports, Treaty Series, records and indexes of conferences and symposiums, and publications of various professional institutions, which are mainly divided into 17 categories according to the theme. Periodicals mainly refer to the periodicals published by the main organs, professional institutions and other independent organizations of the United Nations, including regular and irregular periodicals. As of August 2016, nearly 270000 documents and more than 24000 books and periodicals have been collected in the UN document depository of Chongqing library.
Documents of the Republic of China
According to the information on the library's official website in October 2018, Chongqing library has nearly 200000 copies of documents of the Republic of China, including more than 30000 kinds of Anti Japanese war documents and 76000 copies. There are 27710 kinds of books, 60041 volumes; 3623 kinds of periodicals, 12152 volumes; 186 kinds of newspapers, 4456 volumes in the literature center of the Anti Japanese War, covering all fields of politics, economy, military, culture, education, science and sports at that time.
Local Literature
According to the information on the library's official website in October 2018, Chongqing library has collected more than 1.51 million digital documents from 1911 to 1949 in the period of the Republic of China, including books, materials, newspapers and periodicals officially published and internally distributed in Chongqing since 1950, covering politics, economy, military, culture, education, science, sports and other fields.

As of July 2018, Chongqing library has collected more than 30000 reference books, including encyclopedias, yearbooks, dictionaries, dictionaries, handbooks, organization lists, people's names, etc. in Social Sciences and natural sciences, including the world-famous Encyclopedia of China, China Statistical Yearbook, Encyclopedia Britannica, etc.
Foreign language newspapers
As of July 2018, Chongqing library has collected more than 130 foreign language newspapers and periodicals, about 9000 volumes; more than 60000 foreign language books, published from 1920s to 1980s, in English, Japanese, Russian, French and German. There are about 1500 new books in foreign languages, all published after 2000. They are written in English, covering economy, politics, language, literature, social science, education, art, history, law, military, natural science, medicine, etc.

In 1978, the "C-S Book automatic transmission system", which is in the leading position in China, was developed.
As of July 2018, Chongqing library has opened 47 book circulation points in streets, communities, schools and other places in the city, realized the "one card" loan and return service in the main city, and opened Chongqing digital library, mobile library, 24-hour self-service library, book mobile service vehicle, RFID self-service loan and return system, digital cloud reading experience room, human-computer interactive somatosensory reading equipment and other modern libraries We need to improve the quality of service.
