Peiligang site
Peiligang site is a national key cultural relic protection unit. It is located in the west of Peiligang village, about 8 kilometers northwest of Xinzheng City, Zhengzhou City, Henan Province. The age of the site is about 8000 years ago, which is more than 1000 years earlier than Yangshao culture. The artifacts unearthed from the site have a unique cultural outlook and are named "Peiligang culture" by archaeologists.
The discovery of Peiligang site fills a historical gap in the early Neolithic period before Yangshao culture in China. As early as 8000 years ago, our ancestors began to settle in the Central Plains and engaged in clan economic production activities mainly in primitive agriculture, handicraft industry and livestock breeding.
Cultural outlook
According to the investigation, the eastern part of Peiligang site is a village relic, and the western part is a clan cemetery. From 1977 to 1979, after four excavations, a total of 114 tombs, one pottery kiln, more than 10 ash pits and several dilapidated cave foundations were excavated.
More than 400 artifacts were unearthed from Peiligang site, including various stone tools, pottery, bone ware, etc. Most of the excavated tombs are rectangular in shape, and most of the dead are buried with one person on his back and straight legs. Funerary objects are mainly production tools and daily utensils.
The artifacts unearthed from Peiligang site have unique cultural features, so they are named "Peiligang culture".

The charcoal samples unearthed from Peiligang site were determined by carbon-14 in Institute of archaeology, Chinese Academy of social sciences. It is about 8000 years ago, which is more than 1000 years earlier than Yangshao culture.

The eastern half of the site is a village site with a cultural layer of 1 to 2 meters thick and few relics. The western half is a clan cemetery. Most of the human bones in the tombs are decayed, and a few of them are fossilized. The tomb is rectangular with irregular edges. The funerary objects are mainly stone tools and pottery. Less than 1, more than 20, production tools and living utensils. There is no regular arrangement.
