history
In 1935, Xu Dachun, Xu Shichang's son-in-law, invested 140000 yuan to build a house on Kelun ramp (now Changde Road) and hired Chinese architects Yan Ziheng and Chen Yanzhong to design. The building was built in 1937 and got its name from Xu Dachun's hall name "Maogen hall". After the completion of the building, most of the people who rent in Maogen building are managers working in banks and enterprises.
Architectural features
Maogen building is a hybrid structure with four floors, half basement, four floors in the middle and three floors in the two wings. Similar to the Minyuan building, the overall plan of the building was designed according to the relatively new lifestyle layout at that time. Each floor had four groups of unit rooms with different areas centered on the staircase. Each unit room had bedrooms, kitchens, dining rooms, children's rooms, servants' rooms and bathrooms centered on the living room. The building also had separate rooms in the bedrooms Set up the toilet. At that time, this kind of room layout was basically consistent with the residential rooms, but it was quite different from the traditional Chinese and western residential design forms. The facade of Maogen building is a typical modern building with a large area of dark colored glazed tile walls and light colored balcony blocks as contrast, and with rectangular windows, corner windows and round windows.
