Tianjin Dagang Olympic Museum
Tianjin Dagang Olympic Museum is one of the 12 members of the International Olympic Museum Union. It is an independent international non-profit public welfare organization approved by the International Olympic Committee. The main architectural design inherits the concept of the Olympic Museum in Lausanne. The exterior of the museum is simple and bright, and the glass corridor is more unique. It connects the three exhibition halls, which is the first in the world and is an original building.
Development history
The Olympic Museum is a dream about museums. This dream has a history of 99 years by June 23, 1993. The International Olympic Committee was founded on June 23, 1894. The essence of the Olympic Museum lies in the Olympic spirit --- the perfect combination of sports, art and culture. The purpose of the contemporary Olympic Museum is to show Olympism in a perfect form.
The idea of creating the Olympic Museum originated from Pierre de Coubertin, the Reviver of the modern Olympic movement. In 1915, when the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee was set in Lausanne, Switzerland, he first proposed the idea of building the Olympic Museum. At that time, the Baron believed that museums should not only be the cultural heritage of the newly restored Olympic Games, but also embody the ideal of the Olympic spirit.
architectural composition
Mr. Wu Jingguo, member of the International Olympic Committee, President of the International Boxing Federation, famous architectural expert and convener of the engineering construction group of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Coordination Committee, has been planning and creating the museum for many years. Tianjin Dagang Olympic Museum aims to spread the Olympic culture and carry forward the Olympic spirit. The museum is an open structure, and the main building is divided into two floors. At the entrance of the first floor are autographs by Mr. Samaranch, lifetime honorary president of the International Olympic Committee, and Mr. Rogge, current president of the International Olympic Committee, expressing congratulations and high respect to Mr. Wu Jingguo, founder of the Dagang Olympic Museum in Tianjin.
The first floor of the hall is a public area, with coffee and leisure hall, restaurant, ring screen cinema and the only souvenir shop in China that can manage the theme of the International Olympic Games and previous Olympic Games; the second floor is composed of three exhibition halls, namely the Olympic road, the Olympic tree and the Olympic soul. It aims to advocate and publicize the Olympic culture, and show the Olympic treasures, cultural relics and souvenirs to the public, so that the public can learn more about the Olympic information and knowledge, and have a closer contact with the Olympic Games.
The style of the exhibition hall is full of Olympic culture, with pictures and texts, and high-tech electronic equipment. The museum displays the Olympic treasures collected by Wu Jingguo over the past decades, including Coubertin's manuscripts and the torch of the previous Olympic Games. The rich forms of historical facts and fashion, culture and spirit, education in fun and so on let the general public feel the passion and eternity of the Olympic Games!
Important events
In 1980, when Juan Antonio Samaranch became the president of the International Olympic Committee, he made a major decision, that is, to create a huge, first-class Olympic Museum and Olympic Research Center in Lausanne, which is really in line with Coubertin's wishes and carries forward the Olympic spirit.
Samaranch's goal is to make the museum a lifelike cultural center with modern audio-visual equipment, electronic display equipment. The museum was founded in 1988 after the successful acquisition of a large area of land. But the land purchased is on a slope overlooking Lake Geneva in uchi.
On June 23, 1993, President Samaranch presided over the inauguration ceremony of the Olympic Museum. The famous German figure skater Katrina Witt lit the sacred fire in the sacred fire basin on the square. A considerable number of local people witnessed this historical moment together.
President Samaranch's efforts have been recognized. In 1995, the Olympic Museum won the "European Museum Award" in the museum selection activities sponsored by the European Council. The museum has become a major permanent attraction in Lausanne and has received more than 1.9 million visitors since its opening.
