Introduction to Yang Liandi
Yang Liandi was born in 1919 in BeiCang village. In February 1949, he joined the railway column of the Chinese people's Liberation Army. He joined the Communist Party of China in March 1951.
In September 1949, in order to ensure the smooth March of the people's Liberation Army into the northwest, during the construction of the No. 8 bridge of Longhai railway, he was resourceful and brave. He created a single-sided scaffold and climbed up the 45 meter high pier. Under the cover of only a piece of wood, he carried out blasting for more than 100 times, leveled the top surface of five piers, completed the task 20 days before, made great achievements once, and won the title of "climbing hero". In September 1950, he attended the National Conference of model workers, peasants and soldiers of the people's Republic of China.
In October 1950, he joined the Chinese people's Volunteer Army and went to the front line to resist US aggression and aid Korea. He has successively served as deputy monitor, deputy platoon leader, deputy company commander, etc. In May 1951, during the fifth battle of the war to resist U.S. aggression and aid Korea, when his company was repairing the Longjin River Bridge, he braved the bombing and strafing of the U.S. aircraft, climbed the 17 meter high pier along the half rail hanging from the bridge, and took down more than 40 bridge sleepers, which solved the urgent need of the project. In July, the Qingchuan River Bridge was destroyed by the flood. He created the "rail floating bridge" method to ensure the smooth flow of the railway during the flood. On May 15, 1952, when he was commanding the company to repair the Qingchuan River Bridge, he died bravely at the age of 33. On June 4, 1952, the leading organ of the Chinese people's Volunteer Army gave him the title of "first-class hero" and named his company "Yang Lian Di Lian". The Ministry of Railways named No. 8 bridge of Longhai Railway as "Yang Liandi bridge" and built a monument to Yang Liandi at the end of the bridge. On June 25, 1953, the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea awarded him the title of "hero of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea", the Gold Star Medal and the first class national flag medal.
