Historical evolution
Located at 2185 Jiefang Avenue, Hankou, Wuhan, the former site is a typical Hubei style bungalow. It is humble and unremarkable, but solemn and solemn. On the white marble plate on the left side of the gate is engraved: the former site of Jinghan Railway General Union, a cultural relic protection unit of Hubei Province, November 15, 1956.
This is a bungalow with brick and wood structure. The outer wall is made of green bricks and the inner wall is made of wood. It is 23.8 meters long and 12.7 meters wide. It covers an area of 302 square meters. The eaves and ridges of the door are made of green bricks and black tiles. Behind the heavy wooden doors are old-fashioned wood bolts. Entering the door, facing the patio, the room with wooden windows on both sides. Into the main room, the front square in the long incense table, the following eight immortals table, Taishi chair. The left wing room is where the Federation of trade unions worked. There is a sign on the wall of the gate: on February 3, 1923, the leader of the General Union of Beijing Han railway came to Hankou river bank from Zhengzhou and rented this room to work in secret. Zhang Teli (Zhang Guotao), Li Zhenying, Chen Tanqiu, Lin Yunan, Xiang Delong (Xiang Ying), Yang Defu, Shi Yang, Lin Xiangqian and others once held meetings here to draft manifestos, telegrams and propaganda materials, and became the headquarters leading the strike struggle of the General Union of Beijing Han railway.
It is in this house that the leaders of the Federation of trade unions drafted documents and leaflets such as "especially urgent notice", "strike declaration", "warning our railway officers", "warning passengers", etc., to publicize the reasons and purposes of the strike of the Beijing Han railway workers to the people of Wuhan and even the whole country.
On the morning of February 4, 1923, Lin Xiangqian issued a strike order here. After receiving the order, Huang Zhengxing, a boiler worker of Jiang'an machinery works (now Jiang'an vehicle works), with his powerful hands, tightly grasped the three pipe whistle rod, and tried his best to sound the whistle directing the strike. Suddenly, the workers put out the fire, shut off the brake, cut off the power and let out the water. Within three hours, all passenger cars, military vehicles and freight cars along the Beijing Wuhan railway were stopped. The strike of Jinghan railway workers, which shocked China and foreign countries, broke out.
In order to expose the enemy, report the strike news in time, and strengthen contacts, with the help of the Wuhan District Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Jinghan Railway General Union founded the mimeograph tabloid "strike monthly" here ("stop after the February 7th Massacre").
In the afternoon, before the tragedy, the workers' representatives who participated in the final negotiation gathered in this room to discuss their plans. From this room, they went out to fight tragically. A few hours later, many people fell at the point of the warlords' guns and knives.
In order to educate future generations and protect this important revolutionary site, Hubei Provincial People's Committee listed it as a provincial cultural relics protection unit in November 1956. In 1980, it was repaired as it was. In 1995, after the liberation Avenue was widened, it moved here as a whole, making it a classroom for the masses and young students to carry out patriotism and revolutionary tradition education.
