Bailong Pearl City is located in Bailong village, Yingpan Town, Tieshangang District, Beihai City, Guangxi, 60 kilometers away from Beihai. It is said that there was a white dragon circling here in ancient times, so it was named Bailong city. Because Bailong city is close to the sea and is rich in high-quality pearls, it is also named Pearl City. The site of Bailong Pearl City is located in Bailong village, Yingpan Town, 36 kilometers southeast of the city.

Scenery

It has been a base for collecting pearls to pay tribute in the past dynasties. There are many scenic spots in the city, such as pearl collecting pool, pearl Pavilion, eunuch mansion and Ninghai temple.

It is said that in the Ming Dynasty, the emperor heard that there was a pearl in the Bailong sea, shining on the sea and the sky, but it was guarded by two giant sharks, which could not be picked for many years. The eunuch stationed in Bailong City forced the Pearl people to go to the sea to pick the luminous pearl, resulting in countless deaths and injuries. Haisheng, a pearl collector, went through all the hardships. Fortunately, she was rescued by Princess pearl and finally got the luminous pearl. The eunuch collected the Pearl and rushed to the capital. Just three miles away, under the yangmeiling mountain, the sea suddenly turned white. After investigation, the Pearl disappeared. The eunuch had to go back to Bailong city and forced the Pearl people to search for the Pearl by more cruel means. In order to save the Pearl people, Princess pearl once again gave her precious pearl. The eunuch, bearing in mind his lesson, cut off his own stocks, stuffed them with luminous beads, and immediately set out to return to Beijing. Unexpectedly, when walking through yangmeiling, a bolt from the blue resounded through the sky. A flash of lightning struck the sea. The eunuch was shocked and cut the wound. Pearl was no longer there. After the shock, the eunuch knew he couldn't do the job, so he swallowed the gold and killed himself. It is said that a pile of loess outside Pearl City was the eunuch's burial place. In addition, according to historical records, many Persians who sold pearls in Hepu area during the Tang and Song Dynasties "hid pearls in stocks" to avoid being robbed on the way. It can be seen that "cutting stocks to hide pearls" was also true.

Site structure

The site of Bailong Pearl City is a square, 320 meters long from north to south, 233 meters wide from southeast, 1107 meters in circumference, 6 meters high in wall, 6 meters wide in foundation, stone as foot, brick as wall, and rammed with loess and pearl shell in the center. Covering an area of more than 70000 square meters, it is divided into three gates: the east gate, the south gate and the west gate. There are buildings on the gate, which can watch the whole city and the sea. In the city, there are pearl gathering mansion, pearl field division, salt field division and Ninghai temple. The inner and outer walls of the city wall are built with firebricks. In the center, there is a layer of loess with a layer of pearl shell every 10 cm, which is compacted layer by layer. Therefore, the Pearl City is named. Around the city wall can be seen the ruins of ancient processing workshops and the Ming Dynasty imperial ministers "Li Ye Dezheng stele", "Huang Ye qusi stele" and other relics. The residual shellfish are scattered all over the land, which shows the flourishing of Pearl picking in that year.

Beihai Bailong Pearl City site is located in Yingpan Town, Tieshangang District, about 60 kilometers away from Beihai. The ancient Pearl City used to be a proud symbol of the South Pearl River. What we see is the remains of the ancient Pearl City. This is an ancient city, 36 kilometers southeast of the city, located in Bailong village, Yingpan Town. Pearl City is also known as the white dragon city. It is said that in ancient times, there was a white dragon flying over here, but it did not fall to the ground. People thought that the arrival of the white dragon was an auspicious place, so they built the city from there and called it the White Dragon city. The city is close to the sea, not far from the sea, there are many mother of Pearl Sea, especially Bailong bayberry pond. It is famous for its excellent quality and beautiful color, and is known as "south pearl". The folk myth "Hepu Zhuhuan", which has been circulating for many years, took place here.

The ancient Pearl City was well preserved before the Anti Japanese war. During the Anti Japanese War, most of the city walls and gates were demolished. After liberation, there was only one wall and one south gate, which was destroyed in 1958. There are a few inscriptions in the pavilion. There is a 2.6-meter-high wall in the south gate wall.

Beihai Bailong Pearl City site has been listed as a provincial cultural relic protection unit in Guangxi. To fund the construction of an antique building "Pearl Pavilion" on the ruins of Pearl City, let visitors admire.
