Peacock River
Peacock River is also known as drinking horse river. It is said that ban Chao once drank horses here in the Eastern Han Dynasty, so it is called Peacock River.
Kongque River, located in Korla City and Yuli County of Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang, is a rare tributary free water system. Its only source comes from Bosten Lake (the water source comes from Kaidu River). It overflows from the west of the lake, passes through Tiemenguan, flows through Korla City and Yuli County, and then flows into Lop Nur. Due to agricultural development, it flows through Daxihaizi reservoir and then stops flowing seasonally. Kongque River is the most beautiful scenery of Korla City and the "Mother River" of Korla City in Bazhou, Xinjiang.
River history
According to Xu Song's records of the waterways of the western regions, "the river flows westward for more than 30 Li, leaving the mountain. The water flows south for more than 20 Li, passing between Korla and Juntai. In the southwest, it passed through the halabrak army and Tainan. More than 20 Li, and West, through the korchu army Tainan and West. Every three hundred Li is still called Haidu river. " During the period of the Republic of China, it was generally called Korla river. In August 1948, Korla county government reported to Nanjing government "Korla River questionnaire": river name: Korla river. River length: 145 Li. Origin and passing area: from Kaidu River, from tiemen pass through the city, from Dahe to Kongque River. (Korla archives, Korla county government, Volume 40, 1948) after liberation, this section was changed to Kongque River. Since Guangxu of Qing Dynasty, the Yuli section has been called Kongque River. In the Qing Dynasty, Yuli County was called Xinping County. The map of Xinping County Local Records has set up a post station in Kongque River. Today's Yuli, formerly known as Kunqi, is called Kunqi River from the place name, which means cobbler River, because cobblers often wash leather in the river. Along with Zuo Zongtang, a scholar in Hunan army translated kunqihe River into Peacock River. Kuerle, who had land disputes with Yuli County from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, would not name the river flowing through this area Kongque River. "Notice on changing the Uyghur name of Yuli County" issued by the general office of the people's Committee of the autonomous region on May 6, 1960 pointed out: "on April 22, the State Council officially approved the change of the Uyghur name of Yuli County from" Peacock "(free translation) to" luobunuoer "(transliteration)

Peacock River is a poetic name. In Xinjiang, it is extremely rare to have a river crossing the city like Korla. However, for many years, the citizens of Korla have not enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the Peacock River. The Uygur villagers living on both sides of the river call it "pishang River". Because people wash sheep's skin by the river all the year round, the water quality is seriously polluted, and the Peacock River becomes the smelly sheep's skin river. In the 1990s, with the exploration and development of Tarim oil, Korla City began to build the Peacock River scenic tourism belt. With a total investment of 650 million yuan, the 10 km river crossing the city has been expanded to 2-3 times of the original. The two sides of the river are all made of granite, and there are green belts beside the road. On the river slope between the new lion bridge and Jianshe bridge, 20 stone steps and stainless steel composite pipe metal guardrails have been arranged, and four large parks such as peacock Park and Lixiang park have been built successively, as well as seven parks with different styles River scenic spots.
In recent years, Korla City has built the Peacock River scenic tourism belt project by taking advantage of the Peacock River passing through the city. With perfect infrastructure, green grass, blooming flowers and pleasant scenery, the scenic belt has become a beautiful greening and tourism scenic line in the urban area. A land and water is beautiful because of its elegance; a city is civilized because of its historical accumulation and cultivation.
