Historical evolution
Yacheng Confucius Temple was first built in 1044 A.D. in the fourth year of Qingli period in the Northern Song Dynasty. It passed through song, yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. It has been relocated and rebuilt for more than ten times.
Built in the Ming Dynasty Yacheng Confucius Temple, the temple has Dacheng hall, Wenming gate, Chongsheng temple and Zunjing Pavilion. At that time, there was an endless stream of pilgrims to the temple, and the incense was very popular. Following the holy way, the culture and education were promoted, and the virtuous people were followed one after another, and the good customs were flourishing day by day.
It has been more than 960 years since the site was moved in 1832. Ancient Yazhou Confucius Temple, located in the city of Yazhou, faces south in the north, takes Aoshan (Nanshan) as the arch direction, opens the "civilization gate" as the mountain gate, and is symmetrically arranged along the central axis, forming a palace style architectural complex. It is the southernmost state-level Confucius Temple in China that implements the national ritual system.
After the Republic of China, the Confucius Temple no longer had the old function, the war disaster was restored, the buildings were abandoned, and the ritual, music and sacrificial utensils were scattered.
By 2003, only Dacheng hall, Yetai, dongxipang and Dacheng gate were left. One hundred years of disrepair, damage, denudation, incomplete, gradually lost its original appearance.
In May 1988, Sanya Municipal government allocated funds for the maintenance of Dacheng hall, Dacheng gate and east-west veranda.
In October 2003, the Dacheng hall, Dacheng gate and east-west veranda of the Confucius Temple were repaired.
In March 2006, the original destroyed buildings in front of the Dacheng gate of the Confucius Temple were restored and repaired, including shaositu archway, Wanren palace wall, ritual gate, Yilu, Lingxing gate, panchi, Panqiao, front East West veranda, Zhongxiao temple, Jieyi temple, etc.
In 2007, the Chongsheng Temple behind the Confucius Temple and the Minglun hall in the East were restored.
architectural composition
Yacheng academy covers an area of 6798 square meters, with a construction area of about 1530 square meters. The whole school palace faces south, and the palace style buildings are symmetrically combined. The main buildings along the central axis of the temple from south to north are wenmingmen, zunjingge, shaositu archway, Wanren palace wall, Zhaobi, lingxingmen, Yuchi, Panqiao, dachengmen, tianzitai, dachengdian and chongshengci (back hall). From the characteristics of the arch direction and the internal and external architectural layout on the central axis of the school, the "civilization gate" is actually opened for Yazhou school, which is a symbol of the prosperity of culture and education in the overall pattern of Yazhou school.
The Dacheng hall is decorated with five statues of Confucius and "Si Pei" (Yanzi, Zengzi, Zisi, Mencius) and wooden shrines; memorial tablets of twelve philosophers; large and small offering tables, incense burner candlesticks and various sacrificial utensils; the main musical instruments include a 16 bell, a 24 PIECE Fangxin, guqin, flute, Xiao, Pai, big bell, yinggu, sixteen halberd, etc.
