Bajiaoting Library
Octagonal pavilion Library (octagonal pavilion for short) is the first Chinese Library and the first open public library in Macao, which is located in Casillas garden. The library was originally a public reading room attached to the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in Macao, which was called the reading room attached to the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in Macao.
Architecture
The building was built in 1927 and designed by architect Chen kunpei. The building is two stories high and is named after its octagonal pavilion. Because of the appearance and historical value of Bajiaoting library, Macao Post Office took it as one of the theme stamp products of "Macao library" in 2005.
evolution
After the completion of the building, it used to be the dining room and billiard room of Nanwan garden. Until 1947, he Xian, then vice president of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in Macao, bought the octagonal pavilion and donated it to the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in Macao to open a public reading room. On November 1, 1948, the newspaper reading room attached to the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in Macao was opened by Macao governor Albano Rodrigues de Oliveira. It still serves the public.
collection
Bajiaoting library is one of the few Chinese libraries that still use Du's classification system. It has a collection of 20000 books, and another 15000 are stored in the library of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in Macao. It has a collection of more than 90 kinds of newspapers and periodicals, mainly in Chinese. The collection includes the early bound editions of overseas Chinese daily, Macao Daily, Wen Wei Po, Ta Kung Pao and Guang Ming Daily, which are very helpful for searching the materials of the 1950s and 1970s.
