Sant'andoni

Andoni old church is located in the west of Macao Peninsula. It was built in 1558. It is the first small church in Macao, covering an area of 1.1 square kilometers.

Historical context

On a hot summer day in 1968, a nearly 40 year old Chinese priest stood at the front door of the church. He thought that if a holy sacrifice was held in the hot summer, it might make it difficult for the parishioners to put in. So he made a great wish to provide a perfect church and parish life organization for the parishioners. This was father Liu Zhigang, the first Chinese priest of the church, As the first Chinese priest, his burden did not lighten, but was extremely heavy. He refitted the altar, removed the sacred barrier, installed air conditioning and audio equipment, rebuilt the confession Pavilion, rebuilt the virgin rock and so on.

In 1970, father Liu founded the monthly magazine of the voice of the sheep for the parishioners, which helped the parishioners to have a better understanding of the church and promote family visits and collective recitation of the rosary. Moreover, in order to deepen the connection between the good associations and cooperate with the work of the herdsmen, the Missionary Association (the predecessor of the parish council) was founded, which was one of the few parishes with a sound system of good association connection at that time.

In 1971, the project of Notre Dame rock was basically completed. Later, in order to make the design more effective, a terrace was added and completed two years later, making the church more perfect. The air conditioning system was put into operation on May 23, 2003. In 1977, after nine years of hard work, father Liu had to go to Rome for further study due to the arrangement of the children's Association. In 1978, when father ho took office, he immediately called on the relevant professionals to divide the whole decoration project into two phases to carry out large-scale fund-raising activities. The number of church activities and the society in that year was also the highest in all previous years. In 1981, the second phase of the interior decoration project started. It comprehensively improved the venues for the gathering of believers and the meetings of the society, so that everyone could work in a more comfortable and peaceful environment. During this period, father ho took part in the development of the parish council and helped to formulate the constitution so that the whole structure could operate with more characteristics.

In 1984, the overall construction of the parish was completed, and the operation of the good association was mature. This period can be described as the only survival period in many years. At that time, the parish proposed the renewal movement, so that the parishioners and the good association could reflect and improve more under the spirit of Vatican II. At the same time, father he Jinduo Yinqing was invited back to Hong Kong by the parish to celebrate with father Zheng Haikang.

In 1985, under the direction of the children's Association, father he Guangling was required to attend a pastoral course in Rome for a period of one year. As a result, the provincial capital of China appointed father Mai Xueguang as the acting director priest. In 1984, father Mai became an assistant priest in the church.

Father Mai Xueguang

In 1986, father Mai was officially appointed as the chief priest. His work for the parish was carried out in a spontaneous way. During this period, the parish published the instructions of cardinal Hu: "towards a glorious decade, encouraging believers to take Christ as the center and develop small faith groups. Father Mai spared no effort to encourage new Baptists to form faith groups themselves, in addition to the general good association. For a time, there were all kinds of flowers blooming in the parish. Father Zheng Haikang

In 1991, due to the term of office, father Cheng Haikang was appointed to take over as the head priest of the church in September. After taking office, father Zheng actively carried out the reorganization work. First of all, he took pains to visit various charity associations and put forward suggestions, and began to look for professionals to assist the various maintenance and engineering consultants of the Holy Church. Of course, the most important thing is to actively develop the sense of belonging of parishioners and often visit their families.

In 1992, after years of contact and collection of opinions, father Cheng decided to reorganize the church District Council. Once the motion was put forward, the whole church cheered. After many discussions and coordination, the reborn church district council finally resumed after Easter. After receiving good response and unity from the level of the church and the charity, father Zheng continued to conceive two major events: (1) the 40th anniversary celebration and (2) the decoration of the parish.

In 1993, the decoration of the parish will be carried out in three phases: first, the construction of the roof and external walls, then the construction of the inner hall after the celebration, and finally the reconstruction of the conference center.
