Rainbow estate
Rainbow estate, one of the earliest public housing estates in Hong Kong, is located in Wong Tai Sin District, Kowloon. It was built by the building construction board and is now managed by the Hong Kong Housing Authority.
Located in Ngau Chi Wan, Caihong estate is surrounded by a number of main roads in Kowloon: South of Lung Cheung Road, North East of Prince Edward Road, east of Kwun Tong bypass and west of clear water bay road. The adjacent Caihong MTR station is also named after Caihong estate.
The plaque for the opening ceremony was approved by the government in 1958 for the construction of a large estate by the building construction committee. The construction of the estates was started immediately. The buildings were completed in phases from 1962 to 1964. At that time, the governor of Hong Kong, Sir Robert Blake, also officiated at the opening ceremony of Caihong estate in 1963. The plaque is still placed on the Lanzhong Road (the road inside Caihong estate) below the Jinbi building.
Caihong estate was a planned single housing estate in the district. There was a car park and five schools in the estate. There were shops selling food and daily necessities on the ground floor of each building. There was also a post office. There are also in estate roads connecting buildings and connecting Kwun Tong Road, Lung Cheung Road and Choi Hung Road.
Each unit is equipped with dining room, terrace, kitchen, bathroom, toilet and living space. The rooms for four and six are located in the high block, while the rooms for eight and twelve are located in the low block.
There is a car park and five schools in the estate. There are shops on the ground floor of some low block buildings selling food and daily necessities. There is rainbow road and rainbow interchange nearby.
