Hong Kong Arts Centre
The Hong Kong Arts Centre is a public organization dedicated to the development of Arts in Hong Kong. It was established in 1977 and is located at 2 Harbour Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong. The current chairman is Ms. Bao Peili. The Hongkong Art Center has been promoting the development of contemporary art in Hongkong and promoting cultural exchanges between Hongkong and Chinese mainland and overseas. The Hong Kong Arts Center not only provides professional performance space for internationally renowned artists, but also spares no effort to cultivate new artists in Hong Kong.

history
In 1988, the concert hall of the Hong Kong Arts Centre was officially transformed into the AGN è s B. cinema, the first art cinema in Hong Kong at that time. Large scale art film programs were launched one after another, and generations of film audience and film workers were trained. Today, AGN è s B. cinema is still the most active art cinema in Hong Kong. It actively cultivates the public's understanding and appreciation of film works from all over the world, and is committed to cultivating young people to engage in film and video creation.
Exhibition programs have always been an important element in the mission of the art center to promote contemporary art. Since the opening of the exhibition in 1977, Bao's gallery, which covers two floors, has exhibited many works of Chinese and foreign masters. In 1997, when Hong Kong returned to China, the Art Center organized a number of exhibitions and festivals on local art, culture and history, which encouraged Hong Kong artists to explore their cultural traditions and identities and caused great repercussions in the society.
In 1984, the art center established the Ministry of education and launched different art courses, including ceramic art and computer art. In 1998, the Hong Kong Arts Centre, in collaboration with the Royal Melbourne Polytechnic University of Australia, launched the first part-time Arts degree course in Hong Kong.
With the promotion of the Ministry of education to the Hong Kong Academy of Arts in 2000, they have made a big step forward in the development of art education. Today, the Hong Kong Academy of Arts has become one of the leading arts institutions in Hong Kong, offering a range of part-time and day certificate, diploma and degree courses covering arts, applied arts, media arts, art education and art administration.

As a public institution in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Arts Centre is the only major art venue and institution in Hong Kong that is self financing and non-profit making. It has not received any operating subsidy from the Hong Kong government. Apart from private sponsorship and donations, most of the revenue of HKIA comes from rental office, art courses, box office and venue rental.
Architecture
The Hong Kong Art Center is located on a 1000 square meter street corner at the junction of Harbour Road and Fenwick street. It is designed by architect and artist ho Chen who came back from the United States. The building is 16 stories high, plus 3 floors Floor basement, pillarless interior design, architects use complex functional arrangements derived from the tight and concise space layout, with the triangle as the theme, using double wall design, on the one hand is used to place transport and mechanical systems, on the other hand is used as the backbone of the building, the middle space is used to place stairs, elevators, toilets, storage room air conditioning and electrical equipment Prepare. The ceiling of the building is composed of a group of triangles with structural performance formed by prefabricated glass fiber model, and these triangles also appear in the shape of the building. There are a 463 seat theatre, a 205 seat concert hall, a rehearsal room, a multi story exhibition hall and balcony, two-story restaurants, offices, studios, member clubs and dormitories of cultural institutions on several floors. The main entrance hall has a five storey atrium and stairs leading to the five storey building, in which there is a yellow vertical air-conditioning pipe hanging, like a sculpture. It is another key building of purely cultural nature since the city hall in 1962. It was completed and put into use in September 1977.
The performance, exhibition and projection venues of the Hong Kong Arts Centre are located on the first to fifth floors. The rest are offices and restaurants, mainly including Shouchen theatre, Macquarie theatre, Agnes B cinema, Baugh Gallery, Ho hung Cheung rehearsal room, Dow art room, Bai Yili room, etc.
