Yuantong Huachao is a landscape in Yuantong mountain (Kunming Zoo), which is composed of Cherry Blossom district and Begonia district.
Historical situation
The "Yuantong flower tide" landscape, which has a long history and is famous both at home and abroad, is distributed on the foot of the mountain. Because the flowering period and color of cherry blossom and Begonia are relatively close, everyone is used to call it cherry blossom. In March, it is a traditional custom of Kunming people to climb Yuantong mountain and enjoy flowers in spring. Especially during the women's day on March 8, Kunming people went out to Yuantong mountain, forming a magnificent sea of flowers and people. Since 1920s, cherry blossom and Begonia have been planted in Yuantong mountain. At present, cherry blossom and Begonia are on a large scale, covering an area of 18000 square meters.
Cherry blossom, Begonia District, distributed in the middle of the park. It is about 100 meters wide from north to South and 200 meters long from east to west. It mainly grows Yunnan cherry, Japanese cherry and Chuixi Begonia. In March of spring, thousands of cherry blossoms and begonias are blooming like red clouds, forming the "Luofeng cherry tide". The 16 sceneries in Kunming are called "Yuantong flower tide".
Cherry Blossom area is the focus of the zoo plant landscape, which is renewed, replanted and expanded every year. In 1991, in order to welcome the third China Art Festival, 250 new species of cherry blossoms and 200 new species of crabapple were planted, extending the Cherry Blossom Road by 100 meters and crabapple by 150 meters. By December 1999, there were 370 cherry blossoms and 902 crabapple. The cherry blossom area was extended to dafangting, and the crabapple road was from monkey mountain to elephant house. The floor at the entrance of the cherry blossom area is paved with colored bricks and expanded into a colorful square. The four characters "Yuantong cherry tide" are engraved on the stone hill at one corner of the square.
Li Guangtian, a famous professor of Yunnan University, once wrote a well-known prose "Yuantong flower tide" for Yuantong cherry blossom.
On March 6, 1986, Kunming had a "late spring cold" weather, with heavy snow. The blooming branches of cherry blossoms were covered with thick snow. It was really a rare landscape.
