Former site of German governor's house

The former Museum of German governor building in Qingdao (Welcome Hotel) is located at 26 Longshan Road, Shinan District, Qingdao. It was founded in 1905 and completed in 1907. Designed by the famous German architect racharowitz, with a construction area of more than 4000 square meters, it is a European castle style building combining the typical architectural style of the German Wilhelm era with the youth style. As the highest representative of "German architectural art in China", its luxurious decoration and elegant modeling still rank the first among single buildings in China. Former site of German governor's house

Located on the south slope of Guanhai mountain, Shinan District, Qingdao City, facing Qingdao Bay and little Qingdao, it is the seat of the German Jiao'ao colony. It is used by the governor, so it is called "governor's house".

The age of construction

The building took four years to build, from 1902 to 1906. The governor's house is a masonry and steel mixed structure building, which adopts the symmetrical plane of 19th century European public buildings, with four corners and middle slightly protruding. The top view of the whole building is in the shape of "concave". There is a lot of space in front of the building, opening up a large flower bed type green space, with the governor's house as the center, radiating six roads to the surrounding. Courts, detention houses and high-grade houses have been built in the surrounding streets, and along the Guangxi Road and Taiping Road, there are important facilities such as foreign firms and hotels. The governor's mansion is located in the South and north of Qingdao, which is rare in Qingdao. In addition, the building itself is magnificent, which makes people feel solemn and solemn. The building area is 7500 square meters. The governor's mansion is a four storey building with auxiliary rooms on the first and fourth floors, and the windows are obviously small. 2、 The third floor is the main office, with large doors and windows, spacious and bright, and a balcony like corridor on the sunny side. The conference hall and foyer in the building are high. The indoor doors, windows and wallboards are of average standard, meeting the requirements of office space.

Historical allusions

In 1914, Japan replaced Germany's dominant position in Qingdao, where the headquarters of the Japanese garrison in Qingdao worked. At the end of 1922, the Chinese government took back Qingdao and changed it into the office of jiaoao commercial port supervision office and jiaoao commercial port Bureau. Since April 1929, this building has successively become the office of the reception Commissioner of Qingdao, the Qingdao special municipal government, the pseudo "Qingdao special municipal office" and other institutions.

On June 2, 1949, Qingdao was liberated and Qingdao Municipal People's government worked here. Now this is the office building shared by the Standing Committee of Qingdao Municipal People's Congress and Qingdao Municipal People's Political Consultative Conference.

In 1995, the State Council approved it as a state key cultural relics protection unit.
