This is the oldest museum in Taiwan. It looks like a Greek style building. Under the dome of the hall is a painted glass skylight. Sunlight passes through the glass and reflects beautiful colors on the ground. It has gone through the vicissitudes of Taiwan's history and still has the scale of its founding. The three-story Pavilion, with different themes, mainly introduces the development history of Taiwan. Outdoor is the famous 228 Memorial Park.
Taiwan Museum
synonym
National Taiwan Museum generally refers to Taiwan Museum
The National Taiwan Museum is located in the 228 Peace Park, Taibei City, Taiwan Province, China. It is behind kaidagelan Avenue and in front of Zhongxiao West Road. On the left is Chongqing South Road and on the right is the National Taiwan University Hospital.
Development history
Its predecessor was the "Memorial Museum attached to the vocational and industrial bureau of the governor's office of Taiwan" during the Japanese occupation period. It was founded in May 1908. At that time, the Japanese colonial government set up the "Museum of the governor's office of Taiwan" in October 1908 to commemorate the opening of Taiwan's north-south railway line. When it first opened, it had more than 10000 exhibits. In 1915, the new building of the museum was opened in Taipei's new park, becoming one of the representative works of public buildings built by the Japanese colonial government in Taiwan. After it was taken over by the national government, it was renamed Taiwan Provincial Museum in 1949. After 1999, it was renamed "Taiwan Museum" and its new Taipei park was renamed "peace park on February 28".
architectural composition
The tall hall is spacious and magnificent, and the sunlight from the painted glass of the dome skylight reflects the display space gently and brightly. Taiwan Museum has a collection of about 100000 pieces. The exhibition space also covers the inside and outside of the museum, the north side of peace park 228. In the northwest of the park, there are ancient objects excavated from Taiwan's east coast, such as rock coffins and stone wheels, which are relics of Taiwan's giant stone culture more than 3000 years ago. Next to them are seven Qing Dynasty ancient cannons and two old German steam locomotives, Tengyun and taitie-9. Tengyun was introduced when Liu Mingchuan built the first railway in Taiwan more than 100 years ago and is the oldest locomotive in China. The exhibition area of the museum is about 3000 square meters, which is divided into three floors above ground and one floor underground. A special exhibition area is set up on the first floor. A special exhibition on whale and dolphin conservation is being held. Each theme exhibition lasts for half a year. The second floor is a normal exhibition space, with the theme of "Taiwan biology" in the East, which shows the ecology of Taiwan at different altitudes in a three-dimensional miniature; and in the west, "the traditional culture of Taiwan's ethnic minorities" is displayed, which shows the life track of the island's indigenous people with traditional slate houses, clothing, appliances and models. On the third floor, there is a natural audio-visual classroom for tourists to use and assist learning; the basement is an exploration room for children to contact with specimens.
Collection
The museum exhibits cover anthropology, geology, zoology and botany. Many extinct animal specimens, unique minerals and precious fossils in Taiwan are preserved. The most precious mammal fossil in Taiwan, Zaoshi rhinoceros, and the oldest anthropomorphic stone in Taiwan, zuozhenren, are the treasures of the museum.
Persuasion tablet
In the forest of Steles in the northeast corner of the park outside the museum, we collect nine steles and plaques of self destructed ancient buildings. One of the steles is a exhortation stele, which is very popular and interesting. It tells Tangshan visitors to come to Taiwan to "abstain from lust and eat carefully". The monument was originally erected in front of the Taipei Government Office of the Qing Dynasty. After walking inside and outside the museum, you will admire its elegance, freshness and quietness. The museum building itself is recognized as one of the representatives of Popular Aesthetics of public buildings during the Japanese occupation period by the architectural circles on the island. It integrates the styles of various periods of Western classical architecture. The central dome covered with copper, the triangular gable carved with flowers, the entrance porch lined with six pillars imitating the Greek temple, and the raised platform give people a sense of dignity.
