The old debts are not paid, the industry is confused, and the three poisons and five desires are disastrous. He is a man of boundless merit, courageous in giving money, and happy to help build the temple and open the Buddhist gate. Faith is the source of Tao, and goodness has deep roots. It's fate to get together to build bliss. " In 1996, the ancestral hall was built. In 1997, 18 Arhats were added to both sides of the hall. In 1998, the statues of Buddha and Bodhisattva were re decorated with gold. The whole temple was renovated. By the sixth day of the ninth lunar month in 1998, with the joint participation of the Buddhist Association of Shanghai and Nanhui County, Jingxin nunnery held a grand ceremony for the opening of Buddhist statues, realizing the wish of rejuvenation.
history
Jingxin nunnery was built in the reign of Emperor Guangxu of Qing Dynasty (1875-1908). It is the nearest nunnery to Mount Putuo among all the Buddhist temples in Shanghai. Its origin is also related to Mount Putuo. Jingchuan teacher Tai (1858-1932) is the founder of Jingxin nunnery. She became a monk in Putuo Mountain and received a full precept. In order to promote Buddhism and help all living beings, she left Putuo Mountain to bid farewell to the respected Master Master Qing. She came to Nanhui Nicheng area, which is just across the sea from Putuo Mountain. Jingchuan teacher Tai first built three thatched houses, including Guanyin hall. In 1880, Jingxin nunnery built the main hall, and then gradually expanded to 56 temples, covering an area of more than 10 mu, becoming the largest bhiksuni nunnery in Nanhui County at that time. At the beginning of the 20th century, Jingxin nunnery entered its heyday, with 70 or 80 nuns.
Jingxin nunnery belongs to the Pure Land Sect. It mainly chants Buddhism, chants sutras and studies in the morning and evening. In 1932, when master Jingchuan passed away, his apprentice, nun Liansheng, was the abbot. After the 29th year of the Republic of China (1940), abbess Huayuan served as the third abbot. On the eve of liberation, she left nunnery alone because of her family background. Since then, the number of nuns in the nunnery has been reduced from 40 to 16.
Before and after liberation, the temple fair of Jingxin nunnery was held on the 19th day of Guanyin Chengdao in the lunar calendar every year. In addition to the believers in the nunnery burning incense, the market trade outside the nunnery covered the whole nanhenggang (originally divided into the south, the middle and the North), where farmers bought food, tools and other goods. The temple fair of Jingxin Temple lasted for three consecutive days, attracting pilgrims and tourists from tens of miles around.
In the summer of 1945, when the nuns of Jingxin nunnery burned the remains of three teachers, Jingchuan, Liansheng and Liansong, they turned into four finger shaped relics. Three of them were as transparent as crystal, and one was slightly silvery gray. Because they were burned together at the beginning, they could not tell which one belonged to
Who, but at least we can be sure that the meritorious teacher of Jingchuan is sure to have sacrifice. All those who have relic will go to the pure land in the West. This is exactly the saying in the poem of FA Mai written by the teacher Tai that "the Tathagata is definitely superior to the superior.".
Before the cultural revolution, Jingxin nunnery gave up half of the temple houses to set up "Henggang agricultural middle school", which was later changed into "Nicheng Henggang middle school", making contributions to the cultivation of a large number of useful talents in industry and agriculture at the beginning of the founding of the people's Republic of China, and reflecting the noble quality of Buddhist disciples' patriotism and education. During the cultural revolution, Jingxin nunnery was greatly impacted. On August 24 of the lunar calendar in 1966, the Buddha statue was burned and destroyed. The poor born bhiksuni was driven out of the nunnery. The priceless treasure of Jingxin nunnery, the sarizi pagoda, was also pushed down in the river, and the sarizi disappeared. Since then, the temple was used by factories, and religious activities were forced to stop completely.
In 1990, with the approval of Nanhui County, the county religious office helped to restore it to a place for Buddhist activities. On June 19, 1992, the new site was moved to the east to rebuild the main hall and the East chamber. In 1994, the shanmenjian and Tianwang hall were built together. In 1995, the west chamber and Baoding were built. In this way, Jingxin nunnery has begun to take shape. In 1996, the ancestral hall was built. In 1997, 18 Arhats were added on both sides of the hall. In 1998, all the statues of Buddha and Bodhisattva were filled with gold. The whole nunnery was renovated. The opening ceremony of the Buddha statue was held on the sixth day of the ninth lunar month in 1998.
