On August 13, 1937, the Japanese launched the Songhu campaign in Shanghai and landed at the South Gate of Jinshan Acropolis
Construction history
On August 13, 1937, the Japanese launched the Songhu campaign in Shanghai. On November 5, 1937 (the third day of the tenth month of the lunar calendar), the Japanese invaders landed in the coastal area of Jinshanwei with 100000 troops. Under the situation of great disparity in strength, our coastal garrison resisted to death and killed the enemy bravely. Finally, because of being outnumbered, only more than 40 people broke through the encirclement, and the rest died for their country. After landing, the Japanese army slaughtered the unarmed people in the city, implemented the "three lights" policy, and created the appalling "October 3" massacre.
In 1937, the Japanese invaders launched the "Songhu war" in Shanghai. Due to the tenacious resistance of the Chinese army, the Japanese army suffered heavy losses, and it was difficult to break through the front line and occupy Shanghai. In order to threaten the Chinese Army on the "Songhu battlefield" from its flank, the Japanese army chose the weak defense Jinshanwei to make a sneak attack and land, and finally completed the invasion of the whole Shanghai. After landing from Jinshanwei, the Japanese army burned and killed all the way to invade the north and committed various crimes. Within three days after the Japanese occupied Jinshanwei, 1015 people were slaughtered and 3059 houses were burned in Jinshanwei town alone.
Construction reasons
In March 1984, the landing site of Japanese army in Jinshan Acropolis was announced by Shanghai municipal government as "the memorial site of Japanese imperialist invasion of Shanghai".
In September 1985, Jinshan County government built a pavilion and erected a monument here. In order to better explore and integrate the historical and cultural resources of Jinshan and commemorate the great history of the Chinese people's Anti Japanese War, Jinshan has renovated and expanded the memorial site. There are mainly Anti Japanese theme stone murals, central sculptures, "October 3 Massacre" memorial wall, anti Japanese story purple sand relief murals, memorial wall of the killed villagers, ancient city wall ruins and Japanese blockhouses, warning bell Pavilion, stele of the landing place of Japanese invaders at the South Gate of Jinshan Acropolis, etc. the theme exhibition room of "Japanese invaders' atrocities in Jinshan" is added on the upper floor of the city. Jinshan Acropolis was built in the Ming Dynasty. In history, it was listed as four famous Acropolis along with Weihaiwei, tianjinwei and zhenhaiwei. It was an important coastal military town and prosperous place at that time.
