Ningguo Temple
Ningguo temple is one of the ancient temples in Shanghai, with a history of more than 800 years. The original site is east of zhangxinglang, Beiyang village, Huajing town. According to legend, it was built in the first year of song Longxing (1163 AD), initiated by Zhang Bai Wu, the richest man of Wunijing, and presided over by Seng Changmu. In the second year of Qiandao (1166 A.D.) of the Southern Song Dynasty, the temple was opposite to Longhua Temple in North and south.

Ningguo temple is one of the famous and ancient temples in Shanghai with a history of more than 800 years. According to the records of Songjiang Prefecture of Kangxi, Ningguo temple was built in 1163, the first year of song Longxing. It was donated by Zhang Bai, a local Wujing rich man, and presided over by Seng Changmu. In the second year of Qiandao (1166) of the Southern Song Dynasty, the temple was built. "The temple is on Yanghua of Wujing, the boundary between the two cities (Huating county and Shanghai county), and faces Longhua temple from north to south. In front of the hall, there are four Podocarpus arvensis trees, which have been built for three or four hundred years The temple combines the essence of China's Buddhist architecture, the hall and the corridor, and is majestic and magnificent. Far and near, believers go to burn incense and worship Buddha, and smoke all day long. There is a great deal of incense.
The current Abbot
Master Ping Xi was born on February 6, 1965 in Jiangsu Province. He once served as supervisor of Shanghai Longhua ancient temple, supervisor of Shanghai Ningguo Chan temple, honorary director of Shanghai Charity Foundation and member of the Standing Committee of Xuhui District CPPCC. On May 25, 2013, he was promoted to abbot of Ningguo temple. On February 9, 2015, he was elected Deputy Secretary General of Shanghai Buddhist Association.
In the autumn of 1984, he became a monk and studied in the Sangha training class of Longhua ancient temple in Shanghai. In the spring of 1985, he was ordained at the Jade Buddha Temple in Shanghai. In the spring of 1987, he graduated from the training class, stayed in the temple and served as Yuezhong. In the spring of 1988, he was a monk in Longhua Temple in Shanghai. In the spring of 1993, Longhua Temple in Shanghai was also a monk. In the spring of 1995, Longhua ancient temple in Shanghai was supervised (during the period of 1995. Autumn, Longhua ancient temple was closed). In the spring of 2007, he was the leader of the preparatory group of Ningguo temple in Shanghai. In the spring of 2012, he was the director of Ningguo temple in Shanghai.
Historical evolution
Ming Hongwu 16 years (AD 1383) reconstruction, once changed to the amount of "Guanyin temple.".
”In 1626, Zhang suowang was rebuilt and moved to Zhangjiabang. There are four Podocarpus in front of the hall.
Song Jiangzhi, the Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty, described it as "upright branches, ancient color, three or four hundred years away".
During the reign of Emperor Daoguang of the Qing Dynasty, there was a fire. Tongzhi's "Shanghai county annals" said: "today there is only Guanyin hall.".
In the ninth year of the Republic of China (1920 AD), monk Changde presided over the temple. Peach trees were planted around the temple, named "Xilai garden". It is said that there are 5048 rooms, in which there are four Podocarpus trees that have been planted for hundreds of years.
On the eve of Shanghai's Liberation in April 1949, it was destroyed by the Kuomintang army.
All destroyed in 1958.
By 1969, the ruins had been leveled and turned into good farmland.
In 2007, Ningguo temple was approved for reconstruction.
On April 17, 2010, with the strong support of relevant municipal and district departments and religious groups, the foundation laying ceremony for the reconstruction of Ningguo temple was solemnly held. The newly built Ningguo temple is located in Huajing Park, Xuhui ecological green land. The temple covers an area of 7800 square meters, with a total construction area of 7016 square meters. Among them, the hall of Buddha and Bodhisattva is 2285 square meters, the hall of Sutra, Dharma and merit is 1519 square meters, and other office facilities are 3212 square meters. The style of the temple is Ming and Qing Dynasty, and the main hall is located on the central axis. The roof of Tianwang hall and Guanyin hall is weixieshan style, the roof of Daxiong hall is Xieshan style with double eaves, and the buildings on the left and right sides of the Sutra pavilion are hard mountain style. The general layout is high in the north and low in the south. With Ningguo temple as the center, the historical and cultural landscape of Huajing will be better integrated.
