The site of Cixiu nunnery, No. 15, Zhenling street, is a municipal building protection unit in Shanghai. Cixiu nunnery was founded in 1870. brief introduction
During the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty, in order to welcome Nisheng, he was willing to enter the nunnery as the abbot and changed his name to Cixiu nunnery. Covering an area of 1132 square meters, the main hall is built with three bays and two wing rooms, with a total construction area of 1000 square meters. During the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, Fugen, the disciple of Shengyuan, became abbot. In 1917, the nunnery was destroyed in a fire, and all the buildings were burned. At that time, it was unable to repair. Thanks to his teacher's great virtue and many believers, he rebuilt the main hall with three rooms and two chambers, and added six rooms above and below the Weituo hall, which made the appearance of the nunnery reappear its brilliance. He officially established the Buddhist Chanting hall, established the pure land Taoist temple, devoted himself to chanting Buddhism all day long, made friends with the outside hanging list, and entertained the pilgrims.
history
In the late 1940s, Cixiu nunnery successively invited the contemporary eminent monk master Xingci to speak the Vajra Sutra, master yingci to speak the Huayan Sutra, master Lingyuan to speak the fanwang Sutra, master shoupei to speak the Lengyan Sutra, and the activities of chanting Buddha and preaching Sutra were very prosperous. In 1983, the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of religious affairs funded the restoration of nuns' practice activities, and opened a nun study class.
In 1984, he welcomed master Guanxing into the nunnery, and held a seat raising ceremony in the spring of 1985. The abbot of Cixiu nunnery has experienced six generations from the desire of nature to the view of nature. After being the abbot of the temple, Guan Xing continued to repair the temple until it was basically completed in 1985, which made the temple take on a new look. In the center of the hall is the Buddha statue of Sakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism. On both sides are two disciples of an old and a young. The old one is called the venerable Kaya, and the young one is called the venerable Ananda. The Bodhisattva Guanyin is on the left side of Sakyamuni, and the girl and boy stand on both sides.
Some Buddhists find it very difficult to see that the four Buddhists (bhikkhu, bhiksuni, lay Buddhist and female lay Buddhist) in Shanghai are all together, especially in the cultivation of bhiksuni successors. They ask to go abroad to exchange with them and teach them the precepts.
