Huangpu Theatre
It is located at the intersection of Guizhou, Beijing East Road, Shanghai, facing south. Formerly known as Jincheng Grand Theater, it was built by Liu Zhonghao and Liu Zhongliang, the managers of Guohua film company, in 1933. It was completed and opened on February 1 of the next year. Huang Zhongjie was the manager of the theater, specializing in movies. During the Anti Japanese War, the film industry was in depression. In the 31st year of the Republic of China, Han Zhengping was hired to perform Peking Opera, and Li Wanchun and Lin Shusen took part in the performance.
It was taken over by the Municipal Bureau of culture on June 3, 1954 and approved as a fixed performance venue for the people's Huai Opera Troupe in 1957. Premier Zhou Enlai proposed to change it to Huangpu theater (because it is in Huangpu District), and wrote the name of the theater in person. On February 16, 1958, the Spring Festival premiered Huai opera "swimming in the water" and Huai opera "the morning of the harbor" also premiered here. Finally, because the original stage was only suitable for showing films, it was still dedicated to showing films until now. The building is a four story reinforced concrete structure. It covers an area of 1050 square meters, with a construction area of 350 square meters. In 1974, the theater was overhauled and the front stage was removed. The existing stage is 13 meters wide and 7 meters deep, with a total height of 13 meters and no auxiliary stage. There are 1612 seats.
After many years of use, Huangpu theater has been closed and overhauled since April 2016. The first floor shopping mall has been removed and the performance function has been restored. The renovated theater will return to the performing arts market at the end of October. The theater has added a small theater like black box, which enables actors to interact with the audience and is in line with the latest trend. In addition to special performances, the theater mainly promotes the "minimum 50 yuan" people friendly ticket price, and the proportion of public service tickets and low price tickets accounts for half of the total number of tickets sold, so as to attract the general public and art lovers into the theater.
