The origin of the predecessor
Textile department of Nantong University
The history of Donghua University can be traced back to Nantong Textile and dyeing institute founded by industrialist Zhang Jian in 1912.
In April 1912, Zhang Jian and his brother Zhang Chen borrowed the houses of Zisheng iron factory and Dasheng textile factory to set up textile dyeing training center, which started the training of professional talents in the form of school in China's textile field. In the autumn of the same year, it was renamed Nantong Textile school, which was the earliest Textile University in China, with Zhang Chen as the president and Zhang Jian as the honorary president. In 1913, Zhang Jian and others donated the school building to the southeast of Dasheng cotton mill, which was transformed into Nantong textile special school. In 1927, it was changed into Nantong Textile University, and later renamed as the textile department of Nantong University and the textile department of Nantong college. From September 1938 to August 1949, the textile department of Nantong University moved to Shanghai.
China Institute of textile technology
In the autumn of 1930, China Textile and dyeing industry Tutorial school was reorganized into China Textile and dyeing industry college, located at 1252 Gordon Road, Shanghai. In the autumn of 1946, it was renamed China Textile and dyeing engineering college and moved to 293 Xikang Road in the winter of 1946. In 1948, it was renamed China Textile Institute.
Wenqi dyeing and weaving College
In 1936, industrialist Zhu Wenqi raised funds to build Wenqi dyeing and weaving college in Minhang town. After the first phase of the school was completed in 1937, due to the outbreak of the Anti Japanese War, the school failed to enroll students. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, Zhu Wenqi concentrated her financial resources to construct the second phase of the school, which was completed in the autumn of 1946.
Department of textile, national Jiaotong University
In 1937, national Jiaotong University established the Department of textile engineering in the Institute of technology. In 1940, the school moved to Chongqing, and the Department of textile was closed. In 1946, Chen Weiji presided over the restoration of the textile department.
Chengfu Textile College
In 1940, Li Shengbo, Zhang fangzuo and others planned to establish Chengfu Textile College in Shanghai, aiming at training textile professionals and revitalizing China's textile industry. In order to avoid the interference of the Japanese puppets, the school was temporarily named Chengfu Senior Training Institute. At the beginning of the school, it was divided into two types of schooling: regular class and special class. The regular class enrolled graduates from textile and mechanical departments of secondary technical colleges for two years, while the special class enrolled high school graduates for three years. In the spring and autumn of 1930, the two classes began to recruit students respectively. In 1944, the school was in a dangerous situation and stopped enrolling students. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, it was named Chengfu Textile College, with a length of schooling of three years and enrollment in 1946. In 1948, the domestic political turmoil, once again stop enrollment. After the founding of the people's Republic of China in 1949, enrollment resumed for six times.
Shanghai Textile Industry College
In 1942, some old alumni of Suzhou Polytechnic College proposed to establish a college in Shanghai to train talents for the textile industry. Under the sponsorship of the textile industry association of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Shanghai, Shandong and Henan, the board of directors of Suzhou Polytechnic College was established, with Jiang Shangda as the chairman and Deng bangti as the former president of Suzhou Polytechnic College Textile, machinery, dyeing and finishing three professional. In the summer of 1942, we began to recruit junior high school graduates for five years. In the autumn of the same year, all the teachers and students of the former Suzhou Polytechnic internship class in Shanghai transferred to Shanghai Polytechnic. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, the school moved to No. 496, fululi Road (now Jianguo West Road) and No. 5, Lane 165, Zhaoxiong Road (now Wuyuan Road). In 1946, the school changed to recruit high school graduates for three years. The applied chemistry department was abolished and the management department was added. In 1947, the Ministry of education of the national government changed the name of Shanghai Polytechnic College to Shanghai Textile Polytechnic College, which resumed the five-year system and recruited junior high school graduates. In the same year, the College moved to the former site of Guanghua University on Daxi road.
