Tomb of Shen Kuo
Shen Kuo's tomb is located in taipingwu, north of Anxi xiaxiwan natural village, Liangzhu Town, Yuhang District, Hangzhou city. It was listed as a cultural relic protection unit by Hangzhou City in 1963 and a cultural relic protection unit by Yuhang County on June 27, 1986.
About Shen Kuo
Shen Kuo (1031-1095) was a scientist and reformer in the Northern Song Dynasty. He is proficient in astronomy, mathematics, physics, chemistry, geology, meteorology, geography, agriculture and medicine. He is also an outstanding engineer and diplomat.
He is one of the most outstanding scientists in the history of our country. In 1082 A.D., he went to LongTuge, where he was a bachelor. He was a colleague of Su Shi, Sima Guang and Wang Anshi. In his later years, he was demoted and lived in seclusion in Runzhou (today's Zhenjiang). Because he missed his hometown of Tiaoxi day and night, he named his residence "Mengxi garden". Based on his life experience, he named his scientific masterpiece "Mengxi Bi Tan". ?
Shen Kuo is erudite and profound in research. He has made great achievements in astronomy, mathematics, calendar, geography, physics, biology, medicine, literature, history, music, fine arts and so on. In addition, his works changxingji and Shensu LiangFang are handed down from generation to generation. MengXiBiTan is a great scientific work in ancient China, which is praised as "the coordinate in the history of Chinese science" by Professor Joseph Needham of Cambridge University.
Introduction to Shen Kuo's tomb
In the second year of Shaosheng (1095), Shen Kuo died in Runzhou (now Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province). After his death, he was buried at the foot of Taiping mountain (now Liangzhu Town, Yuhang District, Hangzhou City). The tomb is located at the south foot of Taiping mountain, xiaxiwan, Anxi, Yuhang District, Hangzhou City, with Jinlong mountain in the East and Fenghuang Mountain in the West.
Shen Kuo's tomb was destroyed in his early years. According to the records of Qiantang County by Wanli of Ming Dynasty, public praise and other academic circles, the tomb and Weng Zhong were finally found at the southern foot of Taiping mountain in Anxi in 1983. Under the accumulation of bricks, fragments of blue and white porcelain bowls of the Northern Song Dynasty and several ancient coins of the Song Dynasty, such as "Yuanfeng and Yuanyou", were collected, which coincided with the time and location of the tomb. Finally, the tomb was restored in 2008 with government funding.
Shen Kuo's tomb was listed as a cultural relic protection unit in Hangzhou City in 1963 and a cultural relic protection unit in Yuhang County on June 27, 1986.
