Zhenji Temple

Zhenji temple is located in Lingfeng scenic area, Yandang Town, Yueqing City, Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province. It is one of the 18 ancient temples of Yandang. Because of its remote location, Zhicheng temple is rarely recorded. There are two cliffs 100 meters above the back mountain of Zhenji temple. One is "pillow flow stone", which is engraved on a vertical stone in the cave. Another is engraved on a cliff more than 20 meters west of the "zhenliushi" stone inscription. Its content is a four line Zen poem, with a small preface in front of it, inscribed "Jiading Bingzi Zhongyuan day." Jiading is the year of ningzong in the Southern Song Dynasty, and Bingzi is the ninth year of Jiading (1216). Inscribed by "Ping'an Qichang", "Ping'an" is supposed to be Zhenji temple, and "Qichang" should be the name of monk.

In the thirtieth year of Wanli (1602), the monk's body revived the Zhenji temple and cast a large bronze bell. In the 35th year of Kangxi (1696), the monk was born and repaired. Since then, it has been built many times.

In 1934, Sun Ke, the heir of Sun Yat Sen, accompanied his mother Lu to visit Yandang Mountain. It's Mid Autumn Festival. Mrs. Tai sees the beautiful and quiet environment of Zhenji temple. It's better to decorate it with osmanthus. After returning to Nanjing, Sun Ke ordered people to buy 200 Osmanthus fragrans from Shanghai and transport them to Yandang to plant them in front of Zhenji temple, which is called osmanthus forest. The tablet of Osmanthus fragrans forest written by Sun Ke is embedded on the huge stone of Beikeng Xitan in front of the temple. Now there are more than 20 osmanthus plants in front of the temple. Lush branches and leaves, every autumn, osmanthus in full bloom, add color and fragrance to the famous mountain.

The existing architecture of Zhenji temple was built by Seng Baibo in 1936. Facing south from north, all of them are wooden buildings. Its beam frame structure adopts the common mixed type of lifting beam and crossing bucket in southern Zhejiang. The roof is covered with green tiles, the top of the mountain is hard, and the main ridge is destroyed. Surrounded by stone walls, there is a single room platform door in the south. There is a large patio between the platform door and the main house. Outside the platform is a straight Avenue. On both sides of the avenue is the osmanthus forest.

There is a cave between the cliffs in front of the temple. Only a few days a year, the sun shines into the cave and the statue of Avalokitesvara is seen. It is usually invisible and strange, so it is called "Feilai Avalokitesvara". There are also two cave like pavilions in front and back. Into the Nankeng Valley, there are five horse back trough, immortal stack tower, Damo crossing the river and other scenery. To the north of Beikeng is Majiashan. There is a majialing (also known as Beiling) two meters wide and five miles long. After crossing this ridge, you can reach Nange. Therefore, this is a shortcut from dongneigu to xianshengmen and Xianqiao scenic spots. With the improvement of traffic conditions, Zhenji temple will become a must for pilgrims.
