Historical evolution
In the middle ages, Rome square was the central square of Frankfurt. Fairs and trade fairs, as well as political rallies and court trials are held here. This place may have been named after the Italian businessmen who dominated the local business at that time. In World War II, the truss buildings surrounding the Pentagon square were completely destroyed. Shortly after World War II, the square was rebuilt, and the row of buildings on the east side of the square were grosser Engel, Goldener Greif, wilder Mann, Kleiner dachsberg, and grosser laupenberg Laubenberg) was not rebuilt until 1980-1986, and it was in the highly whitewashed style of Zuckerberg. Soon after, people found the defects of these buildings: in just a few years, there were big cracks in the buildings and they had to be repaired. The fountain of justice built in the 16th century in the center of the square reminds people of the court trial in the middle ages.
Related buildings
In the middle of the square stands the fountain of the goddess of justice facing the old city hall. The goddess holds a balance symbolizing justice. The statue was erected in 1611. In the early stage, it was made of sand and stone. In 1887, it was replaced by a bronze statue. The fountain below once ejected red and white wine for the public to share during the coronation ceremony.
On the east side of the square is a row of antique semi wooden residential buildings. There are also kaiserdom, Romer and Nicolai kirche. Built in 1239, the imperial cathedral has a magnificent Gothic appearance. It is not only the spiritual center of Frankfurt, but also the place where the king of Germany was crowned. From 1562 to 1797, 10 emperors were crowned here.
The old city hall of Frankfurt is composed of three exquisite buildings with herringbone roofs. The one in the middle is called tarama. There was an emperor's Hall on the second floor of Rama, where there was a feast for the coronation of the Holy Roman emperor. The hall is for people to visit when there is no special celebration. There are portraits of 52 emperors of the Holy Roman Empire hanging in the hall. These portraits are the same size as human beings and are very eye-catching. On the opposite side of Rama is a beautiful row of wooden buildings, which were later rebuilt. It is said that before the Second World War, Frankfurt had many such beautiful buildings. Today's Frankfurt is full of modern flavor, but people hope that at least in the center of the old block, the area around Rama square can still retain some of the old style, so after World War II, those beautiful ancient buildings can be rebuilt and preserved. Among them, the cathedral, which held the election and coronation of the Holy Roman emperor, as well as the old city hall, Nikolay church and the fountain of the statue of justice. In summer, it becomes the festival square of "Maine summer"; in winter, around Christmas, Christmas shopping market is held here.
