Rong Zongjing's former residence is located at 186 Shaanxi North Road, Jing'an District, Shanghai, near Nanjing West Road. It used to be Rong's old house. Designed by Chen Chunjiang, reinforced concrete structure, built in 1918. Eclecticism style. It is rich in forms, with a two-story column gallery on the main facade, which has the characteristics of French classicism. The plane is complex, and the interior floor, wood and stained glass are exquisitely decorated.

General situation

There was a row of carved stone parapets. In the past half century, the door here has been closed all the year round. In recent years, the closed door has suddenly opened, revealing the real appearance of this mansion: the lintel and windowsill are carved with exquisite carvings; the windows are all colored mosaic glass; the red corner of the building protrudes from the trees, and the south is a clean and flat lawn. There is no doubt that this is one of the top luxury houses in Shanghai It is also one of the best preserved large garden houses in Shanghai beach. This is an independent three story western style house with a garden. It is where Rong's early residence in Shanghai is located. It is called Rong's old house. The industrial base covers an area of 6.26 mu, with a construction area of 2182 square meters and a garden area of 2475 square meters. The building of Rong's old house is eclectic style, reinforced concrete structure, designed by Chen Chunjiang. The facade of the building is divided by horizontal lines, with French classical style. The ground floor has a spacious porch and tall Ionian style pillars. In terms of architectural technology, house structure and residential equipment, the western style is absorbed more, while in terms of plane layout, interior and exterior decoration and courtyard greening, the traditional Chinese customs and hobbies are retained more.

This mansion was originally owned by German, and was bought by the famous industrialist Mr. Rong Zongjing after he was defeated in the first World War.

Due to the development of the family and the development of their business, the Rong family left the old house one after another and set up another house. The old house was empty for several years. After the liberation of Shanghai, Rong Xiaofan, the agent entrusted with the management of the industry, rented it to the China Institute of Economics on behalf of the Rong family. Now it is a cultural relic protection unit in Jing'an District and an excellent historical building.

In 2002, Mr. Rong's old house was taken by Rupert Murdoch, a media tycoon, for a 10-year lease, becoming the residence of News Corporation's major subsidiaries in Shanghai.
