Jiefangmen
Jiefang gate is a new gate of Nanjing Ming City Wall opened in 1954. It is a single ticket gate. It is located in the south of Xuanwu Gate, the west of Taiping gate, the northeast of Jiming temple and the South Bank of Xuanwu Lake. In order to facilitate the traffic inside and outside this section of the city wall, and to meet the needs of air defense and evacuation, Nanjing city decided to open this door at the location of Taicheng near the "Houhu city wall" at the foot of Beijige mountain.
The design and construction started in December 1951 and completed on June 12, 1952. At the same time, the nearby "Houhu gate" of Ming Dynasty was opened and expanded to Xuanwu Lake.
The Ming City Wall on the Bank of Xuanwu Lake from Xuanwu Gate through Jiefang gate to Taiping gate is the longest, most intact and the largest existing section of the city wall in Nanjing. The height from the crenels to the ground outside the city is generally about 20 meters to 25 meters. In recent years, after renovation, Nanjing City Wall Museum has been built on the gate, making Jiefang gate itself a tourist attraction.
Historical evolution

The present situation of Chengmen
On June 20, 1997, Nanjing mingchengyuan history museum was approved and officially opened on May 24, 1998. The museum is located at No.8 jiefangmen. The museum is located in the Taicheng section of the Nanjing city wall, covering a territory of about 6 kilometers, including the jiefangmen Taipingmen section of the city wall, jiefangmen Xuanwumen section of the city wall, shencemen urn and Nanjing ancient city wall memorial garden. It undertakes the maintenance and protection of the Nanjing city wall together with the Nanjing city wall management office, with different emphases. The museum is located in the scenic Taicheng section of Nanjing city wall. The museum is a special historical museum for collecting, displaying and studying the Nanjing city wall. The rich cultural connotation and the natural scenery of mountain, water, city and forest constitute the historical relics of the Ming Dynasty

The Ming city wall of Nanjing is divided into two branches in Taicheng. One extends to the northwest along Xuanwu Lake until Xuanwu Gate and Shence gate to the north. The other ends at Jiming temple after passing through Jiefang gate. Although it is an abandoned city wall, its height is far higher than that of the city wall along Xuanwu Lake. Behind it, there is Jiming ancient temple as a foil. The scenery is quite beautiful and quiet.
On January 2, 2018, the jiefangmen section of Nanjing Ming city wall was repaired.

Xuanwu lake park
Xuanwu Lake, located in the city of Nanjing, is a national scenic spot at the foot of Zijin Mountain. It is the largest Royal Garden Lake in China, the only royal garden in the south of the Yangtze River, and one of the three famous lakes in the south of the Yangtze River. It is the largest city Park in the south of the Yangtze River, known as the "Pearl of Jinling". The towering Ming city wall, the beautiful Jiuhua Mountain and the antique Jiming temple are on the right.
Xuanwu Lake has a radius of nearly five li. It is divided into five continents (Huanzhou, Yingzhou, Lingzhou, Liangzhou and Cuizhou). The continents are connected by dikes and bridges. It is an integral whole, with mountains and water everywhere. Around the lake, there are many scenic spots, such as Xuanwu Chenxi, Beihu art workshop, Xuanpu, Xuanwu Yanliu, wumiao ancient gate, Mingcheng exploration, ancient YUEWU platform, etc. Xuanwu Lake is not only a landscape garden, but also a cultural resort. Many scholars and poets have left poems here, such as Xiao Tong, Li Yu, Wei Zhuang, Du Mu, Liu Yuxi, Li Shangyin, Li Bai, Ouyang Xiu, Wang Anshi, Cao Xueqin, Guo Moruo, etc. "Jinling is more beautiful than Houhu Lake; Qiantang is more beautiful than Xihu lake." Ouyang Xiu, a writer of the Northern Song Dynasty, once praised Xuanwu Lake.
Jiming Temple
Jiming temple, also known as the ancient Jiming temple, is located on the east foot of Jilong mountain in Xuanwu District of Nanjing city. It was built in the Western Jin Dynasty. It is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Nanjing. It has been known as "the first temple in the Southern Dynasty" and "the first temple in the 480 temples in the Southern Dynasty" since ancient times. It is the Buddhist Center of southern China during the Southern Dynasty.
As early as the first year of Yongkang in the Western Jin Dynasty (300 years), the temple was built on the mountain and founded a Taoist temple. After the Eastern Jin Dynasty, it was established as Tingwei department. In 527, Emperor Wu of Liang Dynasty built Tongtai temple in jimingdai, making it a real Buddhist resort. Since 1958, under the leadership of master Zongcheng, the former abbot, Jiming temple has been gradually restored and opened to the outside world, becoming an important temple in Nanjing. In 1992, the crew of "Legend of the new white lady" came to gujiming temple in Nanjing to borrow the pharmacist pagoda to shoot the related plays of Leifeng Pagoda. At that time, the Leifeng Pagoda of West Lake had fallen down, but the new one had not been built.
Jiming evening bell is one of the ten Xuanwu sceneries, and Jiming spring dawn is one of the 48 sceneries of new Jinling.
Mount Jiuhua Park
Jiuhua Mountain in Nanjing is 61 meters above sea level and covers an area of 12.9 hectares. It overlooks Zhongshan in the East, Xuanwu Lake in the north, urban area in the South and Jiming temple in the West. The Ming ancient city wall is surrounded by mountains. The scenery of lakes and mountains is magnificent. There are temples in the mountains, towers on the top of the mountain, lakes on the side of the mountain, and cities at the foot of the mountain. It is quiet and quiet in the downtown. Jiuhuashan park is located in the east of the city. Jiuhua Mountain is the first hill in the western part of Zhongshan Mountain. It is separated from the Ming City Wall in the north and adjacent to Xuanwu Lake. The side near the lake is steep and sharp, like a capsized boat. It was called capsized Zhoushan in ancient times.
Because of the old small Jiuhua temple on the mountain, it is commonly known as small Jiuhua Mountain, referred to as Jiuhua Mountain. During the Southern Dynasties, it was once a royal garden called "Yueyou garden", which was abandoned after the death of Chen. After the founding of new China, Jiuhua Mountain was established as Jiuhua Mountain Park. On the top of the mountain is the Sanzang pagoda built in 1944, with five levels and four sides. Under the lotus seat in the pagoda is the parietal bone relic of Tang Xuanzang. A bronze statue of Xuanzang was cast in front of the tower. It has the appearance of a walking monk and is very vivid.
Lovers Garden
Located on the East Bank of Xuanwu Lake, Xuanwu District, Nanjing City, lovers garden is designed by Mr. Zhu Youli, a famous Chinese landscape designer. The garden is rich in plant varieties, with a profound artistic conception and strong painting.
The couple garden is adjacent to Xuanwu Lake in the South and Zijin Mountain in the East, with a total area of 30 hectares, including 10 hectares of water. The park not only has the functions of sightseeing, viewing, leisure, entertainment, wedding and so on, but also has the content of teenagers' plant science knowledge practice. In 1984, it won the first prize of landscape design of the Ministry of construction and the national science and technology progress award. Located in the southwest of the middle section of Longpan Road, taipingmenwai, Xuanwu District, Nanjing, and adjacent to Xuanwu Lake Huanhu road in the south, the couple garden is a Jiangnan natural landscape garden with the theme of displaying wild medicinal plants and providing a series of services for sightseeing, rest and wedding.
Shence gate
Now known as Hepingmen, it is one of the 13 gates of the capital city wall of Ming Dynasty in Nanjing. It is located in the southeast corner of Zhongyangmen overpass in Nanjing.
Shence gate (peace gate) has been closed as a military forbidden zone for more than 70 years. It is the most complete preserved gate among the 13 inner gates of the Ming city wall. It is also the only gate in Nanjing that retains the dysprosium building before the Republic of China.
