Because it is the prototype of Disney castle, it is also called Cinderella Castle. It was built in 1869. The castle is one of the palaces of King Ludwig II of Bavaria. Of the 360 rooms, only 14 were completed according to the design, while the other 346 were not completed because of the king's death in 1886. It is the most photographed building in Germany and one of the most popular tourist attractions.
Name source
No country in the world has such a large number of castles as Germany. It is said that there are still 14000 castles. Among the numerous castles, the most famous one is the new Swan Castle at the foot of the Alps in Fussen, south of Munich.
The name of new Swan Rock Castle comes from the middle ages. According to the legend of Swan knight, this white building with cloud mountain and fog cage is only more than 100 years old. Opposite the new Swan Castle is the summer palace of the king's childhood, and the Old Swan Rock Castle. The high mountains, plains and lakes shape the romantic and fairy tale character of the young king. In this light yellow Old Swan rock palace, a new palace of romantic fairy tales is bred.
The founder of new Swan Castle was Ludwig II, a king of Bavaria. This king has no talent to govern the world, but is full of artistic temperament. He was personally involved in the design of the castle. There are lots of German Swan sculptures in it. He dreams of building the castle into a fairy tale world. As the white castle stands on a high mountain, it is surrounded by mountains and lakes. So the scenery is different throughout the year.
New Swan Castle is Ludwig II's dream world, a world of exclusive beauty. He was lonely all his life, either in the face of political conspiracy or personal attack. In that revolutionary era, he was dissatisfied with his status as a mere title. He tried to change his status but did not know what to do. Therefore, he often disagreed with the elders in the cabinet. His association with the famous composer Wagner was strongly opposed by the cabinet and the people because of his extravagance and the indifference between public and private. Wagner was finally forced to leave Munich, which made Ludwig II more and more disgusted with Munich and fell in love with a happy and comfortable world in the Bavarian mountains.
In 1868, Ludwig II built this luxury castle in the southwest of Bavaria in Germany. He was determined to create his own fairy tale world and escape from the real world. In 1886, seven weeks after his death, the castle opened to the public for a fee, and has since become one of the most visited castles in Europe. Disneyland, Sleeping Beauty Castle and many modern fairytale castles are mostly inspired by Neuschwanstein Castle. It looks so amazing!
Emotional tragedy
Behind the beauty and romance lies the tragedy of a young king. His master is Ludwig II, the king of Bavaria, who was born on August 25, 1845. He loved all kinds of operas and stage plays since he was a child. He wrote many plays praising good over evil. He is also an admirer of Wagner, a famous German stage dramatist. It must be noted that the young king was once a good friend of Bismarck, Prussian prime minister. When the two leaders met, they found that they had a grudge against each other, so they became intimate friends. A young romantic temperament, a strong will as iron, their friendship let posterity called strange. However, the king's love life is full of tragic color. His childhood was spent with his young cousin, later Princess Sisi, the queen of Austria. When he began to have a hazy feeling about love, his cousin married to Austria at the age of 15. Her beautiful shadow left a deep and indelible mark on the young prince. In a letter, the young prince called Princess Sisi, who knew him best in the world.
Princess Sisi also tried very hard to find a suitable girl for her cousin. At that time, the young king was also excited to say that he had found the love of his life. But the relationship suddenly ended. This almost successful marriage brought great trauma to the king. Since then, he has been addicted to the fantasy of stage play. Later, deeply moved by Wagner's play, the king decided to build this white fairy tale castle to create a background for Wagner's stage play, so that the moving story of the brave knight and the beautiful princess could be staged there. In 1869, at the site of Swan Castle in the south of Bavaria, he outlined his dream world - New Swan Castle.
New Swan Castle is an unfinished dream of Ludwig II. After the disillusionment with his cousin, his love life was a blank: at the age of 22, two days before the wedding, he suddenly announced that he would not marry Sophie, Princess of Bavaria. He did not get the world's understanding, so he hid in his own world, did not easily appear in public, and even chose to travel at night when he traveled far away. Dissatisfied with the reality, he devoted himself to creating his own fairy tale world. On the eve of the completion of the castle, on June 12, 1886, the single and imaginative young king inspected the progress of the castle for the last time. On his way back to Munich, he disappeared into the night. The next morning, he found the bodies of the king and Dr. Gooden in the lake. Just five days ago, the Bavarian National Medical Council announced that Ludwig II was mentally ill. He was 41 at the time. Ludwig's death left his family 15 million marks in debt and left the world with unfinished dreams (after Ludwig II's death, the project stopped). Until the 1960s, people still denounced the construction of the new Swan Castle as stupid.
With the vicissitudes of life, the German people have turned Ludwig II's dream into reality. The new Swan Castle, which has been built at a huge cost, has become a big earner in the German tourism industry. The castle obtained with the king's blood is the main source of income of the town. More than one million tourists have come here to enjoy the fairy tale castle, which has become one of the most popular tourist attractions in Germany.
Construction process
In a letter to the composer Wagner on May 15, 1868, King Ludwig II mentioned that he hoped to build a castle on the ruins of the former highland castle. The style was taken from the medieval German Knight castle.
In fact, the construction process of new Swan Castle was to abolish the two old castles. In 1868, the old castles were cleared after the water pipes were laid out and the roads were built. On September 5, 1869, the main body of the castle was laid. During the construction of the castle, Ludwig II was very anxious. He often used telescopes to supervise the progress of the project from his father's castle in Hohenschwangau. The gate was the first one to be completed. At the beginning of the castle project in 1873, 200 temporary residences were built at the bottom of the castle to provide meals. By 2009, these temporary buildings had become the famous hotel "Zur Neuen Burg".
In 1872 alone, 450 tons of cement and 1845 cubic meters of lime were used. From 1879 to 1880, a conservative estimate used 465 tons of Salzburg marble. 4550 tons of stones, 400000 bricks, 3600 cubic meters of sand, 600 tons of cement, 50 tons of hard coal and 2050 cubic meters of wooden scaffolding transported from other places must be transported to the west of the castle by steam crane first, and then transferred to the second midway station by a vehicle whose body can be tilted vertically. Next, the pulley block with accurate calculation and high safety engineering are still supervised by the famous TUV (the Bavarian steam boiler monitoring Union). During the construction period of more than ten years in the future, the investment of technology and manpower is even more amazing.
According to the records, it took 6.2 million marks from design to completion. Due to the complexity of the factors involved, as far as the project is concerned, that is, it will take 17 years, and then due to changes in the value of money, it may not be possible to calculate the correct answer.
Architectural landscape
New Swan Castle is decorated with swan's daily necessities, curtains and murals. Even the tap water in the bathroom is decorated with swan shape. As for the domestic water in the castle, a reservoir was built in a valley 200 meters high to store the fresh water flowing out of the stone crevice, and the water pressure of the natural force was used to provide water for the whole castle, including the top floor. For example, there is a swan shaped water supply device in the bedroom. As soon as the faucet is turned, clear water will flow out from the faucet. In addition, inside the kitchen
