Tomb of Snow
Snow's tomb is on the Bank of Weiming lake, Peking University, Haidian District. It is located on the site of Yuanhua temple. The tombstone is a rectangular white marble with the inscription "the tomb of Edgar Snow, an American friend of the Chinese people", written in English. The tomb is surrounded by pines and cypresses and green grass. Facing a lake of clear water, I feel more quiet and solemn. Edgar Snow (1905-1972) is a famous American writer and journalist. He came to China for the first time in 1928, visited the Northern Shaanxi base in 1936, and wrote a book "journey to the west" the next year. He visited China three times from 1960 to 1970 and wrote the other side of the river. They have made contributions to enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese and American people. He died in Geneva in 1972. According to his last wish, he transported part of his ashes to Beijing and was buried here on October 19, 1973

Edgar Snow, American journalist. Born in 1905 in Kansas City, Missouri, Edgar Snow was a farmer, railroad worker and printing apprentice when he was young. After graduating from University, he engaged in journalism. In 1928, he went to Shanghai, China, where he served as assistant to Miller's review, and later as special correspondent of the sun in New York and the Daily Herald in London. Later, he worked as a professor of journalism in Peking Yanjing University (now Peking University) for two years and studied Chinese at the same time.
In June 1936, with the help of Soong Ching Ling, snow and Dr. mahead, who were practicing medicine in Shanghai, risked their lives to visit the Northern Shaanxi Soviet Area via Xi'an. He had a long talk with Comrade Mao Zedong and collected first-hand information about the 25000 Li Long March. Then he made a long journey to interview people all over the border region. The following year, he wrote the world-famous masterpiece "red star shines on China" (the Chinese translation is titled "journey to the west"). Snow was the first Western journalist to cover in the red zone. He wholeheartedly supported the cause of Chinese people's liberation, publicized and introduced the situation of Chinese people's revolution and construction to the whole world for a long time, and enhanced people's understanding of China in western countries.
After the outbreak of the Anti Japanese War, snow served as a battlefield reporter of British and American newspapers in China. In 1939, he went to Yan'an again, had a talk with Mao Zedong, made a detailed investigation of the political power organization in the base area and other aspects, and once again made a report to the whole world. In 1941, he made a truthful report on the incident in southern Anhui. He was attacked by the Kuomintang reactionaries and was forced to leave China. Snow spent 13 years in old China and did many things beneficial to the Chinese revolution and the Chinese people. He has repeatedly taken great risks to rescue our party leaders, underground workers and revolutionary students, and publicized the Anti Japanese proposition of the Communist Party of China. His main works include the far east front, the scorched earth, fighting for Asia, China's resistance, the journey of recovery, the other side of the river, the long revolution, etc.
After the founding of new China, snow visited China three times. In October 1970, Mrs. snow visited China together, attended the National Day ceremony, and was received by Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai at Tiananmen Square. Mao Zedong had a talk with him, which had an important influence on the later approach between China and the United States. Snow died in February 1972 in Geneva. According to his will, part of snow's ashes are buried in a small garden on the campus of Peking University. "I love China," he wrote in his will, "and I would like to leave a part of me there after death, just as I did when I was alive."
On September 10, 2009, the "100 heroes and models who have made outstanding contributions to the founding of new China and 100 new China leaders" were jointly organized by 11 departments, including the Central Propaganda Department, the Central Organization Department, the central United Front Work Department, the Central Literature Research Office, the Central Party History Research Office, the Ministry of civil affairs, the Ministry of human resources and social security, the all China Federation of trade unions, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, the all China Women's Federation, and the General Political Department of the people's Liberation Army Edgar Snow was named "100 heroes and models who have made outstanding contributions to the founding of new China" in the "people who have moved China since the founding of the people's Republic of China"
