history
Jinchun garden was the former residence of emperor Xianfeng of Qing Dynasty when he was the crown prince. It was the central area of Xichun garden of Emperor Kangxi, belonging to one of the "Yuanming five gardens".
In 1822, Xichun garden was divided into two parts, Jinchun garden in the West and Qinghua garden in the East. Qinghua garden was given to Yizong, the fifth prince, and Yichen, the fourth Prince of Jinchun garden. It was commonly known as "Siye garden" (Miao Rixin of Tsinghua University pointed out that the West was called "Chunze garden", while the East was called "hande garden". Qinghua garden was given to miankai, Prince dun, Jinchunyuan presents mianxin to Prince Rui. Huang Yanfu, the author of Qinghua garden scenery, also thinks that "Si Ye" refers to mianxin rather than Yi Chen. Nearly Spring Garden records read: "Shuimu Qinghua, for the time of the complex Park Resort."
In 1860, the Allied forces of Britain and France invaded Beijing and set fire to Yuanmingyuan. Jinchunyuan was spared. Tongzhi planned to rebuild Yuanmingyuan, but because the funds were not enough to pay for the transportation of materials from Xinjiang, it decided to demolish jinchunyuan and use the stones for the repair of Yuanmingyuan. However, due to the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Movement and the decline of Qing Dynasty's national strength, the plan of rebuilding Yuanmingyuan was shelved after the demolition of jinchunyuan. Since then, jinchunyuan has become a "desert island" for more than 100 years.
In 1913, Jinchun garden was incorporated into the campus of Tsinghua University, which is called Qinghua Garden (in the era of Qing Dynasty Royal Garden, Jinchun garden was not a part of Qinghua garden). This scenic spot is often called a desert island or lotus pond in Tsinghua University. In 1979, Tsinghua University rebuilt the original buildings on the desert island and became the jinchunyuan ruins park. Now it is often used as a leisure place for teachers, students and staff. The stone tablet of jinchunyuan site was inscribed by Professor Jin Denian, a famous contemporary calligrapher, former president of Tsinghua University Calligraphy Association and deputy director of Beijing Qingmei Longhu Art Museum.
Landscape
Jinchunyuan lotus pond is one of the two lakes and one river in Qinghua garden water system (Shuimu Qinghua lotus pond, jinchunyuan lotus pond and Wanquan River). The lotus pond in Professor Zhu Ziqing's famous article "Moonlight on the lotus pond" refers to here: Moonlight, like running water, flows quietly on this leaf and flower. A thin green mist floated in the lotus pond. The leaves and flowers seem to have been washed in milk; they are also like dreams with gossamer.
The core landscape of jinchunyuan scenic spot is an island surrounded by Yinuo big lotus pond. The island is connected with the shore by a white marble arch bridge in the northwest, and there is a short bridge "Lotus Bridge" in the southeast. There are high and low hills and woods on the island. There are "Lotus Pond Moonlight Pavilion", Han Pavilion and statue commemorating Mr. Wu Han, as well as monuments of jinchunyuan site. The island also displays a small number of ruins of jinchunyuan and the remaining stone windows and door tickets excavated in 1979 when the desert island was rebuilt. On the southwest side of the island, there is an ancient corridor "Linyi Pavilion", which is an imitation of the original building of the same name. According to the Qing palace style, it is the only symbolic site restoration in Jinchun garden.
Moonlight in lotus pond
In the summer of 1927, Mr. Zhu Ziqing, who lived nearby, strolled in the northwest corner of the lotus pond and wrote the article moonlight on the lotus pond. There is a "Lotus Pond Moonlight Pavilion" built on the island as a memorial, in which there is Mr. Zhu Ziqing's handwriting. However, many people often mistake the lotus pond at Shuimu Qinghua for the lotus pond in moonlight on lotus pond, which is one of the "four wonders of Qinghua": two lotus ponds compete for moonlight.
After the completion of the pavilion, Professor Jin Denian was entrusted by Tsinghua University to write a plaque for it. After several days of hard work, Professor Jin wrote a number of "Lotus Pond Moonlight" plaque names, but he was not very satisfied. He could not match the master's personality, knowledge and realm, and could not integrate into the charming scenery and intoxicating mood of Lotus Pond Moonlight. Finally, he decided to find Mr. Zhu Ziqing's handwriting through the school history museum. Finally, in the rare manuscripts of Mr. Zhu of different periods, four small characters named "he", "Tang", "Yue" and "Se" were found. After nearly a month's hard work, Professor Jin finally succeeded in his creation by analyzing the writing techniques of the four characters "Lotus", "pond", "Moon" and "color", as well as the rules and writing habits of Mr. Ziqing. Today, people can see Mr. Zhu's four black gold characters "lotus pond and moon" which are all in one go, pure and beautiful, tall and powerful, and whose characters are just like his own. This kind of building Pavilion and making plaque with the title of article is rare in modern China.
Linyi Pavilion
Linyi Pavilion is the largest building complex on jinchunyuan island of Tsinghua University. In 1860, the British and French allied forces invaded Beijing and burned the Old Summer Palace. Then Empress Dowager Cixi ordered to build a new garden. Because of the urgent need for building materials, she ordered to demolish the Linyi Pavilion and other buildings. In 1979, Tsinghua University began to rebuild the original buildings on the desert island. Now Linyi Pavilion is often used as a leisure place for teachers, students and staff. The plaque of Linyi pavilion was inscribed by Professor Jin Denian, a famous contemporary calligrapher, former president of Tsinghua University Calligraphy Association and deputy director of Qingmei Longhu Art Museum.
