Five Dragon Pavilion
Five-dragon Pavilion, BeiHai Park, Beijing, China
The five dragon pavilions stretch into the water and are composed of five pavilions. The five pavilions are all square and arranged at random in front and back. Jade pavilions are connected by bridges and white jade stone railings in an S-shape, just like a giant dragon, so they are called Dragon pavilions.
The pavilion in the middle is the largest, which is called longzeting. It was used by the emperor when he was resting. The roof is covered with double eaves and the top is round at the bottom, implying that "the sky is round and the place is round", symbolizing the supreme power of the emperor; the two pavilions on the left are named "Chengxiang" and "Zixiang", with double eaves and single eaves; the two pavilions on the right are named "Shengrui" and "Fucui", the same as the left. They are called Wulong Pavilion. The whole group of buildings are arranged in a symmetrical way, and the setting of different architectural forms also fully shows the distinction of imperial power levels.
Five pavilions are green glazed tile top, yellow tile cut edge, under the eaves beam Fang Shi small dot gold spin color painting, colorful, resplendent. Under the stone bank of the three pavilions of Longze, Zixiang and Fucui, there is a single hole stone bridge, which leads to the north bank.
At that time, longzeting was a place for the feudal emperors and empresses to fish, watch the moon and watch fireworks. The other four pavilions were places for civil and military officials to accompany them. Qing poetry said: "liquid pool Northwest Five Dragon Pavilion, boat wear full of flowers and moon Ting, wine thirst is thinking of swallowing the blue sea, leisurely looking for Lu Yu talk about tea."
Yongzheng and Qifei once lived here. At the time of his death and a month before his death, Empress Dowager Chongqing and Emperor Qianlong came to see him.
