Boiling well and spring
Boiling well is located in Jiuli village, Yanling Town, Danyang City, Jiangsu Province, about 20 kilometers away from Danyang City. Six ancient wells are lined up in Jizi temple, Jiuli village, and the distance between the wellhead is very close. According to records, there were 100 wells in ancient times, some of which were boiling wells. The water in the well is boiling and rolling.
brief introduction
Jizi temple in Danyang City, Jiangsu Province is famous not only for its monuments such as cross stele, Xiaoshui stone and Jihe bridge, but also for its unique spectacle, boiling well and gushing spring.
geographical position
In Jiuli village, Yanling Town, Danyang City, there are six ancient boiling wells with clear water and muddy water. From a distance, the well fence is simple and elegant with unique charm; from a closer look, the water in the well is boiling and rolling. This unique landscape makes visitors very strange. In addition, in the ditches and ponds around the temple, there are many boiling springs that never stop. Villagers call them "dragon Qi" and call them "Longtan" and "boiling pool".

The distance between North and south is half a meter.
The boundary between the two is clear;
Beer and coke are spicy.
Uncanny workmanship of nature;

Complicated and confusing, respecting nature;
The earth's atmosphere is consumed all the year round.
Cultural origins
It is difficult to find out when there was a boiling well in Jizi temple, but it can be seen from the book Yi Yuan written by Liu Jingshu in the Southern Dynasty that the boiling well had been established as early as 1600 years ago in the Eastern Jin Dynasty
The fame has spread far and wide. Paying a visit to Jizi temple and watching the boiling wells and springs are the things that the dignitaries and scholars of all ages yearn for. In the Southern Dynasty, Zhang Zhengjian later wrote a poem "Xingjing Jizi Temple", in which there is a sentence: "wild rattan invading boiling well, mountain rain wet moss stele". This is the earliest poem of boiling well mentioned so far. Besides, celebrities such as Li Bai, Sadula and Shen Deqian left immortal poems after they came to the temple to observe the well.
legend
Next to the boiling well is a temple dedicated to the famous sage Ji Zi of the spring and Autumn period. According to the local villagers, because Jizi temple is here, there are dragons at the bottom of the well, and the bubbles are the breath of dragons. Of course, there is no scientific reason for this.
Mystery
The mystery of taste
Although the distance between the six ancient wells is less than one meter, the taste of the well water is quite different. Some are like Sprite, some are like beer, and some are just like ordinary well water. At present, the mystery of why the well water with a soda like taste can be produced has not been completely solved. When the well water from the boiling well is poured into the cup, small bubbles are produced behind the four walls of the cup, similar to the sprite state we see. At present, we can only guess that the well water contains carbon dioxide, and it has been confirmed that the local geographical location does have the conditions for the formation of carbon dioxide gas.
The mystery of boiling
Boiling well is not a hot spring. According to the test, the water temperature of the six wells is about 19 degrees, which does not exceed the local temperature. Is there life in the well, and their activities cause the water to churn? However, the village cleaned up the mud at the bottom of the well in the early years, and no living things were found except some ancient coins and jewelry. Local staff speculated that there was gas gushing from the bottom of the well. However, due to local conditions, the environmental monitoring station can not analyze the gas in the well.
The mystery of the source
According to common sense, the six wells are so close that the well water should come from the same source. But this is not the case. First, the taste of well water is different. Second, the water level of one of the wells is lowered by pumping, while the water level of the other wells has no obvious change. It can be seen that the water of these wells certainly does not come from the same source.
Some experts speculate that the geographical location of the boiling well is at the intersection of several large fault zones. This special geological environment is closely related to the formation of the boiling well. There may be vertical stratigraphic structure underground. Although these wells are very close and the depth is almost the same, the bottom of the well is in different strata. Therefore, the taste and color of the well water will be different.
On the mystery
In early July 2011, a news was published in the media that there were six strange ancient wells in Jiuli village, Yanling Town, Danyang City, Jiangsu Province. The water in the wells, for unknown reasons, kept churning and bubbling all the year round. It was very like boiling water. What was more amazing was that the color of the well water was clear and turbid, and the taste was different. Some of them were like Sprite Some taste like coke, some taste like spicy, and some taste like beer. The emergence of this strange phenomenon has not only puzzled the local people, but also caused all kinds of ominous speculation among the local people. Why is such a strange phenomenon? What is the geological mystery behind this?
In order to uncover the mystery of six ancient wells in Danyang City and investigate the geological mystery behind the boiling of ancient wells, CCTV and Jiangsu Institute of geological survey jointly recorded the mystery of boiling wells in late September 2011. The film crew of Geographic China followed experts from Jiangsu Institute of geological survey to Danyang City for investigation.
Danyang City is located in the south of Jiangsu Province, located in the Yangtze River Delta, 200 kilometers east of Shanghai, 68 kilometers west of Nanjing. In the vicinity of Jizi temple in Xinggong Town, where the boiling well is located, six wells are distributed in S-shape in less than 15 square meters, and the distance between each well is only about 30 cm. Such a strange arrangement puzzled experts. Close to the mouth of the well, you can hear a very clear sound. Looking into the well, the water kept rolling. The color and taste of the water from the six wells are really popular.
The team investigated other wells nearby. In recent decades, villagers have drilled many wells near the six ancient wells, and the water in each well is normal, even in another well less than 30 meters away. The water temperature of boiling well is 24 ℃, and the temperature of other nearby wells is generally 18 ℃ ~ 20 ℃. The water temperature of boiling well is slightly higher. Geological experts put burning candles, lighters and other combustibles into the well. As a result, they all went out about 10 cm below the wellhead, so the possibility of biogas was ruled out.
Experts from Jiangsu Institute of geological survey further carried out careful water sampling for each well. In order to more accurately compare the differences in water quality, the inspectors also took water samples from the lake beside the well and brought them back for testing. Through the analysis of ferrous and iron content by uv-2550 phenanthroline colorimetry, the analysis of total iron and trace elements by ICP-MS, the analysis of cation content by ion chromatography, the analysis of free carbon dioxide by NaOH volumetric method, it is concluded that there is a lot of carbon dioxide in the well water, and there is a lot of iron ion in the three turbid ancient wells. After exposure to the air, iron ions are easy to oxidize to form yellowish brown, so the well water is turbid.
According to geological records, Maodong fault zone passes through the vicinity of the location of Feijing, and a NNE fault runs through six wells. The ancient well and the lake are basically in the same line, which proves the existence of the structure. Experts then came to Maodong fault zone and found evidence of volcanic activity basalt. When magmatic activities encounter limestone, a large amount of carbon dioxide will be formed. Due to the deep pressure, carbon dioxide gas will flow out of the weak part of the crust through faults. Experts also drained the water from the six "boiling wells" and found that the clean water well and the mixed water well were not connected with each other. The porous soil layer in the mixed water well was rich in iron, while the porous soil layer rich in iron in the clean water well was missing. The mineral and carbon dioxide content of each well is different, which is the reason why the taste of each well in Jiuli village is different.
Although the mysterious veil of the ancient wells has been uncovered, the six boiling ancient wells have been tumbling endlessly in the history of more than 2000 years! These peculiar phenomena are extremely rare in China and even in the world! This has to let us sigh the magic of nature!
