brief introduction
Qianfo village is a national key cultural relic protection unit. It is an important tourist attraction in Anyue County. Together with the three scenic spots of Wo fo yuan, Pilu cave and Chaoyang cave, it forms a county tourism hotline. The thousand Buddha village in the scenic area is magnificent and has experienced four golden age, namely Sui, Tang, Five Dynasties and Song dynasties. It has concentrated on the essence of several generations of craftsmen, and fully embodies the four characteristics of Anyue stone inscription, such as "ancient, multi, refined and beautiful". It has high aesthetic value, historical value and research value.
History of Qianfo Village
Qianfo village was named Qiyan temple in Tang Dynasty and Qianfo temple in Qing Dynasty. The original Hall of Qianfo temple is 5-fold, which has experienced thousands of years of vicissitudes. It was revived and abandoned several times. In 1974, a mental patient burned the only remaining hall. Now there is no temple here, only thousands of statues on the cliff of the village are left, so the masses also call it Qianfo village.
The stone sculptures in Qianfo village are magnificent in scale. There are 105 niches of statues, 3061 large and small statues, which are distributed in the northern and southern rocks. The whole statue area is 705 meters long. According to Anyue County annals, the cliff sculptures of Qianfo village began in the 13th year of kaihuang of Sui Dynasty (593 AD). According to the stone inscriptions, there are "Kaiyuan" and "Tianbao". The latest inscription is the first year of Qingyuan of Southern Song Dynasty (1195 AD), which lasted for more than 600 years. Nowadays, most of the main statues are works of the prosperous Tang Dynasty, and there are still a few works of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In addition to the Buddha statues, there are 7 cliff paintings, 3 Tang steles and 26 inscriptions. The highest is 4.6 meters and the smallest is 0.8 meters; the largest is 6.4 meters wide, 6 meters high and 3.3 meters deep. There are 14 cliffside statues 3-6 meters high and 250 statues 1-2 meters high. Among them, the largest Buddha is 6.2 meters high. Nanyan is mostly made in the Tang Dynasty. Its face is plump, its nose is high, its ears are drooping, its chest is bare and its muscles are exposed. Its clothing lines are sparse and deep, and its lines are smooth, simple and elegant. In particular, Jingping Guanyin in niche 56 has a typical style of stone carving in the prosperous Tang Dynasty. In addition, the statue of emperor Tantric in the prosperous Tang Dynasty, the glazed Buddha, is also a rare stone art treasure. There is a well preserved "medicine master Sutra in disguise" in Beiyan. The medicine master Buddha is the subject of the Tang Dynasty Tantric statue. The pharmacist Buddha sits on the waist round lotus throne. There is a canopy carved on the top of his head and a bodhi tree on his side. There are eight Bodhisattvas, nine horizontal death and twelve vows carved on his left and right. There are also scenes of death, being killed by the king's law and being bitten by tigers, leopards and snakes. It is a rare treasure in other stone sculptures. There are also many statues of Bodhisattva, arhat, Vajra, strongman, Dharma protector, flying sky, supporter and all kinds of "Jingbian" stories in Qianfo village, which fully show the joys and sorrows of heaven, earth and hell. The contents are very rich and the carving skills are exquisite.
The cliff of Qianfo village is steep, the forest is green, the vine is coiled, and the road turns with the mountain. In the newly-built temple between the two peaks, the long bell sound rippling in Dayun mountain, and the chant of confession lingering in the ears of tourists. Around the temple, there are many exotic flowers, full of buds, beautiful and charming. The beautiful natural scenery and the ancient stone carving art complement each other, which makes the tourists full of interest, happy and forget to return.

There are 105 niches, 3061 statues, 29 inscriptions and 7 floating pictures (towers) in qianfozhai grottoes. It began in Sui Dynasty, flourished in Tang Dynasty, Five Dynasties and Song Dynasty, and extended from Ming Dynasty to Qing Dynasty. The contents of the statues are mainly Buddhist, among which the Buddhist scriptures of pharmacists, the western three saints, one Buddha, four Bodhisattvas, eight Bodhisattvas, Maitreya Buddha, and Sakyamuni figures in the stone carvings of the Tang and Song dynasties are the best of the same period in Anyue grottoes. In particular, the "Buddhist Sutra of pharmacists" (Tang Dynasty) is the first in China for its rich content and complete preservation.
Niches No. 8 "three saints of the west" were chiseled on the basis of Tang Grottoes in the Northern Song Dynasty. There are still obvious Tang Dynasty statues on the side walls. The niche is 6.62 meters high, 5.2 meters wide and 3.2 meters deep. The main Buddha Amitabha is 4.1 meters high, and Dashi is 3.1 meters high with Guanyin Bodhisattva. There are obvious traces of restoration on the head of the Buddha.
"The picture of the change of the pharmacist's classic" is a masterpiece of the statues of Qianfo village.
