Suzhou is a famous hometown of top scholars. The number one scholar in Suzhou, written by Li Jiaqiu, an expert in literature and history, shows that in terms of jurisdiction, there have been 45 number one scholar in literature and 5 number one scholar in martial arts in Suzhou. The number of number one scholar in Chinese accounts for 7.55% of the total number of 596 in China, ranking first in all cities in the country. It is worth mentioning that during the Qing Dynasty, there were 26 number one scholars in Suzhou, accounting for 22.81% of the 114 number one scholars in China, and 53.03% of the 49 number one scholars in Jiangsu. However, the population of Suzhou only accounted for about 1% of the whole country during the same period.

Pan Shien's former residence in Suzhou Zhuangyuan Culture Museum, whose owner pan Shien (1769-1854) became the number one scholar when he was 25 years old, has always been a bachelor (Prime Minister). His former residence is a part of gufengchi garden. Now it is a provincial cultural relic protection unit, with a construction area of 1825 square meters, including Shamao hall, hall, Yuanyang hall, women's hall, etc. It was also the residence of Chen Yucheng, king of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom. On the west side of the house is Linton Road, which is close to Guanqian.

Collection

There are 469 pieces of exhibits in the museum, including 187 pieces of 91 kinds of cultural relics, excluding the architectural relics preserved in the old houses. It has initially possessed the basic scale of a professional museum.
