Ruianbao, built in 1938, is located in the west of Santao village, Sanlei Township, Minqin County, Wuwei City, Gansu Province, covering an area of 5085 square meters. It is the most complete fortress style residence in China. Now it is a key cultural relic protection unit in China.

Ruianbao is a large-scale, exquisitely designed and exquisitely constructed modern representative building with a high degree of combination of luxury houses and military defense. It is a typical northern landlord's courtyard integrating defense, houses and garden art. It is also a group of folk architecture groups with unique architectural style and complete preservation in Hexi area. It is of great value to the study of Hexi dwellings.

Development history

Rui'an fort was built in 1938. It was the Zhuangyuan of Wang Qingyun, the head of security of Minqin County, during the period of the Republic of China. The name of the fort is "Rui" and "an".

Ruian Fort covers an area of 5085 square meters, with 8 courtyards, more than 140 high ridge tile roofed houses, 7 pavilions and pavilions, and the wall is 10 meters high. There are numerous secret passages in the courtyard. It is not so much a private mansion as a defensive fort. Wang Qingyun, the owner of the house, was the head of the security guard. He ransacked people's money and built the manor for himself. He was afraid of the hatred of the local party, so he planned to build many defensive facilities inside and outside the house. Although the family is rich and the wives and concubines are numerous, they live in fear and fear.

As a defensive fortification, Ruian fort is equipped with secret passages, dark rooms, shooting holes and other facilities. The 1.6-meter-wide and 3-meter-high secret passage interlayer crisscross the fort and is 60 meters long. The turrets and parapets are filled with shooting holes. The design is ingenious, big inside and small outside. It's hard to shoot bullets outside. The passageway on the top of the wall is wide and can be used as a sports car. However, after all, in the vast desert, people are poor, you only rich, there is no peace to speak of.

Ruianbao sits in the northeast and faces southwest, covering an area of 5085 square meters. The wall is 12 meters high and 6 meters wide at the bottom. On the top of the building are Wenlou, Menlou, Wulou, Wangyue hall, West lookout platform, Xiaoyao palace, East lookout platform and women's wall 2 meters high.

The main building layout of more than 100 rooms in the fort is "one grade ruling", which means "three yuan and only a thousand hectares, one grade ruling and ten thousand bells". The three-dimensional structure is in the form of "phoenix spreading its wings alone", which means "dragon flying, phoenix flying".

It has seven halls and eight courtyards. The upper and lower parts of the fort extend in all directions. It has a complete range of facilities, such as the enemy platform, patrol room and shooting hole. It has two Huamen, three street gates, ancestral hall, Buddhist hall, Shuangxi building and Xiaoyao palace. It integrates the ancient and modern architectural styles of North and south. It has exquisite wood carvings and is unique. It is known as "the Forbidden City on the frontier".

Architectural composition

Ruianbao is 100 meters long from north to South and 56 meters wide from east to west. It opens to the south. Brick wall, 12 meters high, 6 meters wide base, with women's wall, 2 meters high. The gate tower has a single eaves on the top of the hill. It is 6 meters wide in two rooms, 3 meters deep in one room and 5.8 meters high. There are more than 140 houses in the fort, which are symmetrically distributed along the central axis, and are of three in quadrangle type.
