The Jinsha River, Lancang River and Nujiang river running southward from the Qinghai Tibet Plateau are clamped by the North-South Yunling, Nushan and Gaoligong Mountains, forming a world-wide spectacle of "Three Parallel Rivers" in Northwest Yunnan. Shigu town is located in the west of Lijiang ancient city, adjacent to Jiuhe Township and Longpan Township in the East, Shitou Township in the South and liming Township in the West and North. It is a strategic place for military strategists of all dynasties. It is named after a drum shaped stele carved with white marble. Shigu town

Jinsha River is a section of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River from the mouth of Batang River in Yushu County, Qinghai Province to the mouth of Minjiang River in Yibin City, Sichuan Province, with a total length of 2308 km. It is said that in the past, the residents along the river used to take sand for gold, so it was called Jinsha River. It flows out of Qinghai, through Tibet, from Deqin County to Yunnan, and continues to flow southward in Hengduan Mountain area. When it arrives at shigu Town, it turns to the Northeast because of the barrier of the cliff, forming a huge "V" turn, which is tens of kilometers long. This spectacle is known as "the first bay of the Yangtze River".

According to geological data, as early as before the Quaternary Alps movement, the Yangtze River water flowed southward along the Hengduan Mountains. Later, due to the Quaternary Alps Himalayan neotectonic movement, the south of Shigu town was uplifted to a high mountain, forcing the river to change its course, thus forming a grand view of the river's rapid turn.

The rainy season in the first bay of the Yangtze River is mainly from July to September, with annual precipitation of 749.6 mm and annual average temperature of 14.6 ℃. The hottest month is July, with monthly average temperature of 21 ℃. The coldest month is January, with monthly average temperature of 6.7 ℃. It belongs to humid Valley climate.

Historical evolution

The stone drum is named after the drum shaped stone brown carved by the Mu family chieftain of Lijiang in 1548. The name of the Naxi nationality is "Raba", which was called "Luopo" or "Luopo" in ancient times, and "Ciba" or "Raba" after Ming and Qing Dynasties. Shigu was under the jurisdiction of Jujin Prefecture in Yuan and Ming Dynasties. The Qiaotou contract of Shigu was set up in the Qing Dynasty, and it was renamed shiguli in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China. In July 1949, after the liberation of Lijiang, it belonged to Jinjiang Branch and shigu District in September. From 1950 to 1953, shigu belonged to the Fourth District of Lijiang County.
