JIAYE Hall
JIAYE hall, also known as Jiaya hall, is located in the east of the hillside of Tianzhu peak in Jizu mountain. It is said that the founder of Jizu mountain, the Buddha of drinking light, was named after the venerable JIAYE who had been wearing clothes for 500 years.
For this reason, JIAYE Temple plays an important role in many temples in Jizu mountain, known as "the first temple in the mountain" and "the ancestral court of all temples in the mountain".
brief introduction
Jiadian temple is located in Jizu mountain, Binchuan County, Yunnan Province. It was built in Yongle period of Ming Dynasty. It was rebuilt by master Hongdao in 1994. The system of spreading Dharma is Zen. There are Tianwang hall, Guanyin hall, JIAYE hall, abbot building, sutra building and other buildings. The most unique building is the hall of Gaye, where the statue of Gaye Buddha carved in sandalwood is worshipped.
Historical records
According to historical records, JIAYE hall was built in Yongle (1403-1424 A.D.) or Chenghua (1465-1487 A.D.) of the Ming Dynasty. During the Jiajing period, the temple was built by Yuanqing, then rebuilt and renovated many times. By the time of Wanli Renzi (1612 AD), the JIAYE temple had a considerable scale. By the Shunzhi period of the Qing Dynasty, it had the momentum of being the first temple in the mountains.
In front of the hall, there is an 8.6-meter-high gold and copper ten thousand Buddha pagoda. In 1691 A.D., a big fire destroyed all the towers and buildings. In the second year, Huiwen, a monk, was rebuilt, but the scale was not as large as before. After liberation, the people's government appropriated funds in 1952 and 1963 respectively for the repair of the JIAYE hall, which was destroyed by people during the "Cultural Revolution". The JIAYE hall, which tourists see now, was newly built on the original site from 1992 to 1994. It was initiated by Kuanlin, the great monk of Wenshu Academy in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, and his great disciple, master Hongdao, presided over the reconstruction task.
In the first month of 1639 A.D., Xu Xiake, a great traveler, visited many temples in Jizu mountain. After that, he mentioned JIAYE temple and JIAYE Temple many times in his diaries of traveling to Yunnan. We know from Xu Xiake's diary that at that time, the JIAYE temple was moved to the top of Tianzhu peak. At that time, there was no Jinding temple on the top of Tianzhu peak, only an abandoned Tuzhu temple. After the JIAYE temple was moved to the top of the mountain, a JIAYE temple was built on the original site. As for the reason why the hall of JIAYE was once moved to the top of the mountain, it is not explained in detail in the historical books. What we know is that the hall of JIAYE was later moved back to the original site.
The rebuilt Temple of Gaye
The JIAYE hall rebuilt in 1994 is a triple hall. After entering the book, the gate with "blessing in Yunshan" is a heavy hall, that is, the heavenly king hall. Maitreya Buddha is made in the hall, and four heavenly kings are made on the left and right sides. After the Tianwang hall is the double hall, which is the Guanyin hall. Inside the hall, there is a thousand handed Avalokitesvara (real copper), and the murals on both sides are 32 kinds of incarnations of thousand handed Avalokitesvara. After Guanyin hall is the third hall, which is the main hall. In the hall, there is a statue of the founder of Jizu mountain, venerable JIAYE (wood carvings of Cinnamomum camphora, weighing more than 3 tons). The mural in the hall is the scene of "Lingshan meeting", that is, the scene of Sakyamuni preaching to the disciples in lingjiu mountain. Close to the south side of the main hall is the hall of patriarch (the temple monks call it the four fold Hall). There is a statue of Sakyamuni prince in the hall, and the murals in the hall are Sakyamuni and his disciples eighteen Arhats. Further south from the ancestral hall is the Da pan stone, also known as the pan Tuo stone, on which tens of people can sit. Next to the Dapan stone is the newly built "open-air Zen room", with 30 lotus seats, which is the place for beginners to receive precepts. There are also Abbot's room, Scripture room, chanting room, guest room, zhaifang and other supporting houses in JIAYE hall, which are harmonious with the main building of JIAYE hall as a whole, and the interior is decorated with modern decoration materials.
