Tombs of Chen Tianhua and Yao Hongye
The tombs of Chen Tianhua and Yao Hongye are located on the hillside of the left rear of Yuelu Mountain Temple, Yuelu District, Changsha City, Hunan Province. It is a distinctive sarcophagus type celebrity tomb with separate tombs in Changsha area during the period of the Republic of China. It is an important part of the tombs of 1911 revolutionary martyrs in Yuelu Mountain.

According to textual research: Chen Tianhua (1875-1905), formerly known as Xiansu, was born in Xinhua, Hunan Province. He is a modern Chinese democratic revolutionist, and has written "menghuitou" and "warning bell". He is one of the founders of Huaxing Association and China Alliance Association. In the winter of 1905, he took part in the struggle against the "rules for banning students studying in Japan from Korea" issued by Japan's Ministry of education, culture, culture, and culture. On December 8, he angrily left more than ten thousand words of "suicide note" in Tokyo's Dashen Bay, encouraging his classmates to "be tenacious and patriotic". Yao Hongye (1886-1906) was born in Yiyang, Hunan Province. He studied in Japan in 1904, joined the Chinese League in 1905, and organized a road mining school in the Youth Association of Kanda, Japan, to advocate the protection of road mining sovereignty. He took part in the struggle against the "rules for banning students studying in Japan from Korea in the Qing Dynasty" issued by the Ministry of education, culture, culture, and culture of Japan. Later, he returned to China to establish a Chinese public school. He was obstructed by the officials and gentry, and died in March 1906 when he threw himself into the Huangpu River. On May 23, 1906, Yu Zhimo and others launched Changsha people to bury two martyrs in Yuelu Mountain.
The tomb covers an area of 66 square meters and faces east from the West. It is composed of tombstone, Sarcophagus, tomb enclosure, worship platform, incense burner, desk and tomb railing, all of which are made of granite. It is 6 meters long from north to South and 2.8 meters deep from east to west. There are two stone benches on both sides of the tomb, one incense burner and one incense table in the middle from east to west. Among them, the incense burner is 35 cm high, 33 cm long and 20 cm wide, and the incense case is square, 30 cm high and 60 cm long. A set of epitaphs and inscriptions, 150 cm high and 51 cm wide, are erected on the north side of the worship platform, which mainly describes Chen Tianhua's life and achievements. The inscription was written by Zeng Jiwu in 1921. The tomb is a sarcophagus made of granite. There are four tombstones. The main tombstone is 163 cm high and 50 cm wide, with the characters of "Tomb of martyr Chen Tianhua" and "Tomb of martyr Yao Hongye" engraved in direct script respectively. The attached tombstones on both sides of the main tombstone are 137 cm high and 40 cm wide, with the characters of "the first year of the Republic of China" and "Hunan public journal in June" engraved in direct script respectively. The inscriptions are in running script, solemn and rigorous. On the north side of Yingdi center is Chen Tianhua's Sarcophagus, which is 2.54 meters long, 1.16 meters wide and 0.76 meters high; on the south side is Yao Hongye's Sarcophagus, which is 2.48 meters long, 1.09 meters wide and 0.76 meters high. The lid of the coffin is semicircular and made of three long strips of gneiss; the tomb is arc-shaped, 30 cm wide, about 5 meters in diameter from north to South and 4.6 meters in diameter from east to west. The hands of the tomb are embossed with crane, and the long strips of granite are vertical. The tomb railing is 1.05 meters high and 1.46 meters long. It is composed of two horizontal strips of stone, which are connected in series by mortise and tenon. The two pillars have three bays, and the top is decorated with a lion. The tomb is compact in structure and solemn in atmosphere.
The tombs of Chen Tianhua and Yao Hongye were announced as cultural relics protection units in Hunan Province in April 1993. As an important part of the tombs of the 1911 Revolution in Yuelu Mountain, the tomb is of great historical value to the study of the lives of Chen Tianhua and Yao Hongye and the history of China's old democratic revolution.
